Position: Sustainable Transportation Coordinator<br />
Organization: Ecology Action Centre<br />

ORGANIZATION<br />

Since 1971, the Ecology Action Centre (EAC) has been working to build a healthier and more sustainable world. We are proud to be a member-based organization with over 4,500 members and more than 300 volunteers. Our areas of focus include Built Environment, Coastal & Water, Energy, Food, Marine, Transportation and Wilderness.<br />

THE POSITION<br />
<br />
EAC is seeking an experienced sustainable transportation advocate to advance municipal and provincial policies and strategies and to support and enhance programs. The Sustainable Transportation Coordinator will be a central part of EACs 5-person transportation staff team. The overarching goal of the position is to build capacity in Nova Scotia for more people to safely use active transportation (AT) as well other forms of sustainable transportation. The position reports to the EACs staff directors.<br />

RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
<br />
Policy and Advocacy<br />
Provide municipalities and others with resources, presentations and other supports in the implementation of AT policies, plans, infrastructure and programs<br />
Support the implementation of key AT policies, strategies and plans<br />
Work with regional and provincial AT committees<br />
Respond to current AT issues in traditional and social media<br />
Support the EACs and DalTRACs share-the-road campaigns<br />
Work on broader sustainable transportation policy, strategy and planning<br />
<br />
Program Development<br />
Research and develop a new AT achievement program for schools and other community partners to measure their AT involvement<br />
Create a Measuring AT in Nova Scotia best practices resource<br />
Explore how our AT programs can better integrate and support our provincial and regional goals to increase the physical literacy and activity levels among citizens and promote their lifelong mental and physical well-being<br />
Take a leadership role in program fundraising<br />
<br />
General<br />
Support the Sustainable Transportation Action Team volunteer group<br />
Support other EAC active transportation projects as required<br />
Participate in and support the overall work of the Ecology Action Centre<br />
<br />
QUALIFICATIONS <br />
<br />
REQUIRED<br />
A passion for sustainable transportation and a commitment to high-calibre program delivery and development<br />
Strong knowledge of sustainable mobility (primarily active transportation) options and benefits for citizens<br />
Knowledge of relevant Nova Scotian policies and policy development practices<br />
Considerable experience with program delivery, development and evaluation<br />
Proven track record in fundraising and grant writing<br />
Experience working with and providing community support<br />
Excellent communication skills: networking facilitation, public speaking, writing<br />
Proven skills as a relationship builder; able to provide leadership on complex issues, build allies, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders<br />
Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize<br />
Persistent, diplomatic, creative, optimistic, with a team-oriented approach<br />
Computer literate in Word, Excel, internet, email and file/data management<br />
Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends and willing to travel within NS (CarShare available with the position)<br />
<br />
DESIRABLE<br />
Degree and/or relevant experience in any of the following fields: education, community development, planning, health and recreation<br />
Media savvy with strong social media acumen<br />
Experience working with underserved individuals and groups<br />
Experience working in non-profit, volunteer-driven environments<br />
Experience with collective impact approaches and/or development evaluation<br />
Relationships with Mikmaq and African-Nova Scotian communities<br />
<br />
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT<br />
<br />
32 hours/week at $22/hour for 33 weeks (until approximately the end of May, 2017). Pending funding results the hours and duration of the contract may increase.<br />

LOCATION<br />
<br />
Halifax, Nova Scotia in EACs wonderful green office one of the most energy efficient office buildings in Canada.<br />
