Position: Market Stand & Mobile Market Staff: 2017 Summer Student<br />

We are looking for a summer student to support our market stand on Common Roots Urban Farm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and work with the Mobile Food Market on Fridays and Saturdays. We are looking for someone who is kind and reliable, willing to help out two hard-working projects with diverse participants.<br />
<br />
Average 35 hours a week Tuesday to Friday (with 2 full Saturdays during the placement)<br />
<br />
$10.85/hr for 10 weeks. June 26th to August 26th.<br />
<br />
Duties Include<br />
<br />
Manage on-farm market stand including:<br />
Market set-up and take-down<br />
Engage with customers<br />
Ensure we have packaging and marketing materials available<br />
Keeping detailed records of production and sales<br />
Assist in harvest, packaging, sorting and delivery by bike<br />
Keep sales and harvest records up to date in GoogleDrive<br />
Assist with social media photographic and written content<br />
<br />
Each Friday will be spent supporting the Mobile Food Market project with a focus on:<br />
preparing produce for Saturdays market (transporting, sorting, weighing/bagging, storing produce)<br />
working with the coordinator and local host sites to support outreach and engagement activities (online promotion, representing the market at events, distributing posters, visiting sites in each community (i.e.family centres, food banks, etc) to spread awareness of the project, answer questions, etc.))<br />
<br />
Two Saturdays during placement will be spent joining the Mobile Food Market on its route and providing support for:<br />
transforming the Halifax transit bus into a mobile market installing shelving and display units<br />
loading, displaying and pricing produce<br />
traveling to the North End Halifax and Fairview market sites to provide overall support in running the markets(could include managing the check-out, bagging, engaging customers for feedback, restocking produce, etc.)<br />
supporting the take-down and cleaning process for the bus at the end of the day<br />
one Saturday will be July 1 (7:30am-3:30pm) while the other date is flexible<br />

Required Skills and Experience<br />
Motivated and energetic<br />
Organized and able to create new systems ie. checklists, spreadsheets<br />
Good writing and math skills<br />
Friendly and good with the public<br />
Able to work in a diverse team setting made up of staff and volunteers<br />
Able to work outside for many hours in various weather conditions<br />
Spreadsheet and GoogleDrive familiarity<br />

This is a Canada Summer Jobs position; candidates must be between 15 30 years of age, be registered as a full time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full time basis in the next academic year. In addition, candidates must have/be physically fit to work outdoors in all conditions.<br />
