Position: Wetland Enhancement Technician<br />

End Date: March 31, 2018<br />

Remuneration: $16.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay and statutory benefits at 35 hours per week.<br />
<br />
Qualifications: Post-secondary diploma or bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, ecological sciences, biology, natural resources. Must have experience working collaboratively on agricultural, wetland or ecological related projects/programs. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather, under physically demanding conditions. Previous experience and/or knowledge in identifying wetland and invasive flora, installing agricultural fencing and working with the agricultural community would be an asset. Must be capable of technical writing and well versed in communicating with the general public.<br />

This position is part of a federally funded program and the successful candidate must meet the following eligibility requirements:<br />
• A Canadian post-secondary graduate<br />
• 30 years or younger at the start date of the position<br />
• Must not have participated in any other Youth Employment Strategy programs (e.g. Career Focus)<br />
• A Canadian citizen or permanent resident<br />

Job Description/Responsibilities:<br />
<br />
The Wetland Enhancement Technician works under the direction of the Program Manager in a supportive and cooperative team environment. The Wetland Enhancement Technician will be expected to complete duties directly related to CARP day to day activities in order to fulfill ecological monitoring project requirements for wetland restoration and enhancement projects.<br />
<br />
The Wetland Enhancement Technician is expected to conduct field work as needed in various weather conditions and field conditions using their personal vehicle (compensated according to CARP's travel policy) or CARP’s field vehicle. The Wetland Enhancement Technician will also be expected to spend time in the office entering data and conducting reporting requirements as directed by the Program Manager.<br />

Specific tasks can include:<br />
• Assist in the delivery of CARP's wetland enhancement project including liaison with farms, provincial agriculture representatives, Ducks Unlimited and other partners as required.<br />
• Undertake wetland assessments on farm properties in the Annapolis River watershed including biodiversity, wetland vegetation, soil and water quality assessments.<br />
• Undertake and lead wetland enhancement and restoration field activities (e.g. invasive species removal, fencing, planting of native wetland vegetation) under direction of CARP’s Program Manager<br />
• Prepare site plans and recommend restoration and enhancement actions for agricultural clients and prepare reporting for CARP and project partners.<br />
• Help train summer and seasonal CARP staff on as needed basis.<br />
• Attend meetings for projects as required with project committee or CARP management.<br />
• Help deliver outreach, stewardship and educational activities (e.g. host events, presentations in local schools and groups) as directed by CARP management.<br />
• Participate in monthly staff meetings, quarterly Board meetings and prepare monthly summary reports for the Board of Directors.<br />
• Undertake additional field work or office work as directed by CARP Management.<br />
