Position: Adventure Leader<br />

Trips By Transit is a federally registered Not-for-Profit organization that works towards a world where everyone has access to nature and community. We work specifically to facilitate deep connections between individuals and nature, their community, and their inner selves through running community and chartered adventures to local natural spaces using public transit.<br />
<br />
The Adventure Leaders will be the primary individuals planning and executing Trips By Transits public and private adventures.<br />
<br />
These individuals will be involved in monthly planning meetings where they can sign-up for trip leading opportunities. From here, they will work to plan exciting outdoor trips using public transit working with community groups, collaborators, and sponsors!<br />
<br />
Adventures planned by Adventure Leaders will be following the guidelines and schedule of the Adventure 3(65) project, but outside of this will be largely self-directed. Adventures may take any form, but should be using public or active transit and exploring local spaces of environmental or cultural importance within HRM.<br />
<br />
Compensation: <br />
Half-day trip (4h), Primary Trip Leader: $50 (including prep work)<br />
Full-day trip (8h), Primary Trip Leader: $100 (including prep work)<br />
<br />
Duties and Responsibilities: <br />
Attending monthly adventure planning meetings<br />
Planning adventures (for the public and/or community groups) including selecting a destination, learning about the destination, and planning the transit route<br />
Visiting the location prior to the trip (if you have not been recently)<br />
Working with the Adventure Coordinator to create and advertise an event for the adventure<br />
Facilitating a group along your planned adventure<br />
Working to facilitate active and engaging conversation and aid the comfort of participants<br />
<br />
Skills and Capabilities:<br />
<br />
The Adventure Leaders and Assistant Adventure Leaders should have the following experience and skills:<br />
planning and executing hikes and adventures<br />
First Aid and CPR C certification (or willingness to get this certification before commencing in the position)<br />
leading groups safely and engagingly in outdoors settings<br />
Group conversation facilitation<br />
Knowledge and awareness of local community and environmental issues<br />
Prior experience with TBTs adventures is an asset but not necessary<br />
<br />
Structure<br />
<br />
This is a honourarium volunteer position. In order to be compensated, leaders must lead or colead 3 trips. After the first 3 trips compensation will be delivered. This may be altered for special circumstances.<br />
<br />
We would need an estimated 4-8 trip leaders depending on individual capacity.<br />
<br />
Trip Leaders and Assistant Leaders will attend monthly planning meetings with the TBT Adventure Coordinator to sign-up to lead adventures. There is no set schedule for these positions but Trip Leaders and Assistants should have some availability on the weekend and evenings to lead trips.<br />
<br />
Trip Leaders must be able to commit for at least 6 months.<br />
<br />
It is not necessary that applicant possess all of these skills and experience. We are most concerned with applicants having the passion and drive for the mission and mandate of Trips By Transit and are happy to facilitate learning of important skills.<br />
