Wanted: Wood Turtle Field Volunteer<br />

Location: Annapolis County, Kings County, Nova Scotia<br />

Training Session<br />
Wood Turtle Volunteer Training<br />
• When: Sunday April 15, 1:30-3:00 PM<br />
• Where: Wilmot Community Hall, 13972 Highway 1<br />
<br />
New and returning volunteers welcome.<br />
<br />
Free. No experience required.<br />
<br />
Youth welcome; anyone under the age of 12 should have a parent or care taker present.<br />
<br />
Agenda items:<br />
• Introduction to the program<br />
• How to ID NS turtles<br />
• Animal care protocol<br />
• Field survey methods overview, including visual surveys and nesting surveys<br />
• Review of data cards and data entry<br />
• Introduction to the new species at risk reporting App<br />
• Equipment use<br />
• Field scheduling<br />
• Bonus* ribbon snake survey opportunities<br />
<br />
**Field volunteer kits and data cards will be available for distribution<br />
<br />
Who are these volunteer opportunities suitable for?<br />
• People who enjoy exploring outdoors (sometimes in muddy, bushy habitats)<br />
• Students looking to develop new field skills<br />
• Nesting surveys are suitable for individuals with mobility issues<br />
• Wildlife lovers<br />
• Individuals looking for physical volunteer opportunities<br />
• Community members or property owners who live with or near wood turtles<br />
<br />
We are looking for volunteers who will be willing to work independently once they have gained enough experience, but we also have opportunities to work with project staff or seasoned volunteers.<br />
