Position: Conservation Assistant<br />
Organization: The Nature Trust of New Brunswick Inc.<br />
Location: Fredericton, NB with some province-wide travel<br />

Employment Term: May 1, 2018 to November 1, 2018 (6 month contract)<br />
<br />
The Conservation Assistant is a challenging position for a skilled, recent college or university graduate student in the field of conservation ecology or biology, environmental sciences/management, forestry, or geography, and under 30 years of age. This individual must have excellent communication skills, experience in field research and writing, as well as an aptitude for plant identification. The ideal candidate will be a quick-learner, be comfortable with long field days, and have strong multi-tasking skills. A working knowledge of forestry practices, and/or agriculture practices, and proficiency with ArcGIS software are considered assets.<br />

The Conservation Assistant participates in the delivery of projects and programs in the Conservation Department while supporting the Conservation Manager with project planning and reporting as required. This individual will be chiefly responsible for planning and delivering fieldwork activities, but will also take on a variety of office tasks. This is a technical, entry-level position that is filled on a 6-month term basis.<br />
<br />
The successful candidate will be mentored and supervised by senior staff; their work will include, but will not be limited to:<br />
Participate in and lead field surveys to identify important ecosystem components including Species at Risk, rare plants, and unique habitats;<br />
Participate in and lead site visits and meetings with private landowners to encourage land management for Species at Risk habitat;<br />
Conduct baseline surveys for new nature preserves;<br />
Report-writing, and field data collection and management;<br />

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:<br />
Must be a recent college/university graduate and must be under 30 years of age;<br />
Completion of diploma/degree in biology, forestry, ecology, Environmental Studies / Management, or equivalent;<br />
Must have a drivers license, and be able to work some evenings and weekends;<br />
Must be comfortable interacting with landowners and groups of people;<br />
Orienteering training is an asset;<br />
Must be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods of time.<br />
Bilingualism is an asset.<br />
