The Position<br />
<br />
The Senior Development Manager reports to the Director of Development and in collaboration with their counterparts in both the Toronto and Vancouver offices as well as remote geographies to manage and execute strategies to increase cultivation and solicitation activities, leading to the achievement of revenue targets. Working with a wide range of partners, donors and tools, you will build and support the growth of fundraising by:<br />
• Developing campaigns to solicit donations from an existing network of institutional partners<br />
• Leveraging contributions from new partners, including individual donors, institutional donors, corporations, governments and other parties<br />
• Developing a graduated plan to build and strengthen the capacity of the organization, board and staff to contribute to overall fundraising goals<br />
<br />
Primary Responsibilities<br />
• Manage the full scope of activities related to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of an assigned portfolio of major gift and legacy gift prospects and donors, including individuals, foundations and corporations.<br />
• In collaboration with colleagues, help build the opportunity pipeline for Tides Canada’s philanthropic advisory program.<br />
• Proactively identify new potential major supporters and facilitate research, with prospect research support, that will inform donor cultivation strategies.<br />
• Serve as the organization’s relationship manager and main point of contact for specific donors and prospects, as assigned.<br />
• Work closely with the Development, Strategic Programs, and Executive teams to ensure all major gift donors are receiving appropriate and consistent stewardship and recognition.<br />
• Manage a prospect pipeline, and employ a ‘moves management’ strategy to achieve year-end revenue targets successfully.<br />
• Work with the Development, Finance, Shared Platform, Strategic Programs and Communications teams to improve processes that support cross-functional gift and donor management.<br />
• Play a role in maintaining a culture of philanthropy within the organization.<br />
• Participate in thought leadership activities both internal and externally, such as speaking at conferences, writing blogs etc.<br />
<br />
Qualifications & Experience<br />
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in professional fundraising, with a focus on major gifts and with significant exposure to stewardship, cultivation and donor management<br />
• Knowledge of donor advised funds, philanthropic advisory services, and impact investing<br />
• Skills in diplomacy and negotiation, and the ability to mediate between individual and facilitate groups of people working towards a common goal<br />
• Exceptional service orientation combined with well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills to interface with major donors, senior volunteers and staff with the professional presence necessary to interact with various parties<br />
• Ability to write and speak fluently and be able to write for the fundraising environment to advance fundraising cases for support and to develop strategic development plans<br />
• Demonstrated ability to draft, and coach others to draft, proposals, gift agreements, stewardship letters and reports and other written documentation as required<br />
• Excellent project management, prioritization and time-management skills to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines while driving to surpass goals<br />
• Working knowledge of charity regulatory environment and reporting requirements, fundraising, grant development and reporting<br />
• Talent for identifying issues and problem-solving<br />
• Experience with general financial oversight<br />
• Experience using a CRM database and committed to maintaining accurate and detailed files and databases, notably Salesforce<br />
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in applicable computer programs, donor databases and social media platforms<br />
• Tech-savvy: Excellent comprehension and ease with the application of Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel<br />
• Alignment with and enthusiasm for the mission, goals and values of Tides Canada<br />
• Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation<br />
• Awareness of conservation and/or social issues<br />
• Member of AFP or CAGP<br />
