The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) is an environmental charity based in Nova Scotia. We take leadership on critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice. We are grounded in community and are a strong voice and watchdog for our environment. We work to catalyze change through policy advocacy, community development, and building awareness. We take a holistic approach to the environment and our economy to create a just and sustainable society.<br />

The Ecology Action Centres transportation team works to increase the use of transportation modes, like walking, cycling, and transit use, in Nova Scotia that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote healthy communities, and ensure equitable access for all.<br />

POSITION<br />
<br />
We are seeking a full time Sustainable Transportation Coordinator. This person will be responsible for working on municipal and provincial policy and planning issues and collaborating with partners in government, community organizations, and institutions to advance sustainable transportation in Nova Scotia. The person in this role will also hold the teams long-term vision for sustainable transportation in Nova Scotia and work to provide support and guidance to our policy and program work in order to help the team achieve that vision. The objective is to grow the team's work to include more sustainable transportation initiatives through fundraising and strategic partnerships. The Sustainable Transportation Coordinator will report to EAC Directors.<br />

Specific Responsibilities:<br />
Advance sustainable transportation in Nova Scotia through strategic, policy-focused interventions.<br />
Project management for necessary policy interventions, including evaluation, funding proposals and reporting to funders.<br />
Provide municipalities and others with resources, presentations and other supports in the implementation of sustainable transportation policies, plans, infrastructure and programs, including an online repository of resources, templates, and toolkits.<br />
Develop and coordinate a network of municipal active transportation practitioners called the Active Alliance.<br />
Participate in stakeholder consultations and provide support for the implementation of sustainable transportation-enabling plans and policies, including the Integrated Mobility Plan, the Traffic Safety Act, and the Active Transportation Policy Framework.<br />
Lead strategic partnership development and fundraising efforts for the Transportation Team and participate in the collective work of the Transportation Team including:<br />
Supporting internal communications.<br />
Identifying and securing strategic fundraising opportunities and grant writing.<br />
Meeting with regional, national, and international organizations and networks.<br />
Work with team members to set policy and direction of team and support the team in meeting its strategic targets, including fundraising and report writing.<br />
Support the Sustainable Transportation Action Team, a group of volunteers interested in working on transportation issues.<br />
Support the overall work of the Ecology Action Centre.<br />
Other duties as required.<br />
<br />
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE <br />
Degree in public policy, planning, sustainability, environmental science or studies, or a related field<br />
Strong knowledge of sustainable mobility options and their benefits for citizens<br />
Knowledge of relevant Nova Scotian policies and policy development practices<br />
Ability to think strategically and undertake strategic planning exercises<br />
Proven track record in fundraising and grant writing<br />
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal<br />
Proven skills as a relationship builder and facilitator; able to provide leadership on complex issues, build allies, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and facilitate large groups of people<br />
Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize<br />
Persistent, diplomatic, creative, optimistic, with a team-oriented approach<br />
Experience working with diverse communities, such as Indigenous communities, African-Canadian communities or other communities of colour, with a commitment to social and environmental justice<br />
Comfortable and confident speaking in multi-stakeholder settings and to media through interviews<br />
Computer literate in Word, Excel, internet, email and file/data management<br />
<br />
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE<br />
At least three years of experience in management or leading teams<br />
Experience working for a non-profit organization, First Nation Band, co-op, labour organization, or community enterprise.<br />
Experience with developmental evaluation and/or theory of change<br />
Experience with budget management<br />

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT<br />
<br />
Full-time (37.5 hours per week) for an indefinite term; 4 weeks of paid vacation and a cost-shared benefits plan. Compensation commensurate with experience in the range of $22.50-24.50/hr.<br />
<br />
Interviews will take place between August 27-31st, 2018 and the successful candidate will ideally start soon after.<br />
<br />
Hours: Monday to Friday flexible hours. Some evening and weekend work will be required as will some travel within NS.<br />
<br />
Location: This position will be based at EACs office, 2705 Fern Lane, Halifax.<br />
