Position: Board Treasurer<br />
Type: board of directors opportunity / volunteer<br />
Organization: Ecology Action Centre<br />
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia<br />
<br />
Time Commitment: 5 - 8 hours per month<br />
<br />
Term: Two or four years (beginning January 2018 to enable overlap with current Treasurer)<br />
<br />
The Treasurer is a key member of the financial team at the EAC. The Treasurer works closely with the Financial Director (FD) to ensure responsible and transparent financial management of the Centre. The Treasurer is responsible for:<br />
Advising Board and Financial Director on financial matters<br />
Reviewing draft of the annual EAC budget (prepared by FD)<br />
Reviewing and signing off on the annual charitable return (prepared by FD) and being aware of the annual audit process (all audit back-up completed by FD)<br />
Participating in risk management discussions and processes<br />
Coordinating annual review of the FDs position<br />
Attending monthly board meetings (held fourth Monday of each month at 7 pm) and monthly Executive meetings<br />
Participating in Board activities such as annual EAC retreat<br />
<br />
Qualifications<br />
Member of Ecology Action Centre<br />
An accounting designation<br />
Familiarity with non-profit accounting an asset<br />
Interest in being an active member of a team<br />
Previous experience serving on a board an asset<br />
<br />
