Position: Finance Clerk - Halifax<br />
Hours: part time, 10 - 12 hrs/week<br />

ORGANIZATION<br />

The Ecology Action Centre is an environmental charity based in Nova Scotia. We take leadership on critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice. We are grounded in community, and are a strong voice and watchdog for our environment. We work to catalyze change through policy advocacy, community development, and building awareness. We take a holistic approach to the environment and our economy to create a just and sustainable society.<br />

POSITION<br />
<br />
The Finance Clerk assists in maintaining the daily and monthly accounting and financial activities for the Ecology Action Centre, including month end postings, bank reconciliations and financial tracking for both Operations and Projects. The position reports to the Finance Manager.<br />
<br />
Duties include:<br />
• Assist with month-end activities; all bank statement postings and bank account reconciliation<br />
• Enter bi-weekly payroll posting into accounting software<br />
• Provide support for fiscal year-end and annual audit<br />
• Update tracking of Operations revenues and expenses monthly<br />
• Update monthly tracking of projects<br />
• Physical filing of finance documents<br />
• Additional activities as required<br />

QUALIFICATIONS<br />
<br />
Required skills and experience:<br />
• 1-2 years experience in a financial capacity. Some post-secondary education.<br />
• Experience using accounting software. Knowledge of Sage 50 an asset.<br />
• Excellent Excel skills<br />
• High level of trust and integrity<br />
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational skills.<br />
• Initiative, self-motivation and the ability to work well independently<br />
• Excellent time-management skills<br />
• Strong written and oral communications<br />
• Positive problem-solving attitude<br />
• Commitment to social and environmental justice<br />
<br />
Desirable skills and experience:<br />
• Experience in a non-profit environment<br />
• Accounting/Bookkeeping courses (community college or university)<br />
• Comfortable working in contact management databases<br />

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT<br />

10-12 hours per week @ $18.00 - 20.00/hour, based on experience<br />

Indefinite term contract<br />

Workdays: 2 days per week, Monday to Friday, specific days to be decided.<br />

Ideal start date: December 3rd, 2018<br />

*Office Accessibility Notes: The first floor of our building is designed to be universally accessible. The front entrance has a ramp and automatic door openers. We also have a ramp to the back door for an alternative exit, although there is no automatic door opener there. We have one accessible parking space. The first floor has a stair lift in the foyer between the split levels, and there is a good turning radius for wheelchairs. There is accessible meeting space, kitchen space, and office space on the first floor. The second and third floors, where the remainder of the offices are located are only accessible by stairs. All three floors have a gender-neutral washroom.<br />
