Position: Director, COINAtlantic Secretariat<br />

<br />
The ACZISC Association Board of Directors is seeking candidates to fill the full time position of Director of the COINAtlantic Secretariat. The ACZISC Association is the legal entity and employer of the COINAtlantic Secretariat which services the Coastal and Ocean Management Community of Practice through the delivery of information products, on-line data sharing tools, the holding of workshops and webinars and participation in projects that advance the implementation of integrated coastal and ocean management (ICOM) and the open sharing of data and information.<br />
<br />
COINAtlantic has been active in promoting ICOM and the accessibility of coastal and ocean data since 1992 and has recently joined other partners in Atlantic Canada to form the Atlantic Regional Association of the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS).<br />
<br />
Reporting to the Board of Directors of the ACZISC Association the Director’s key responsibilities include: <br />
• Building and maintaining effective communication with the ICOM Community of Practice in Atlantic Canada and encouraging participation and tangible support of the objectives and activities of the COINAtlantic and the Atlantic Regional Association of CIOOS;<br />
• Managing and contributing to user engagement for the Atlantic Regional Association of the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System and contributing to the management and operation of the Atlantic Regional Association of the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System;<br />
• Developing the COINAtlantic strategic plan, work plan and budget;<br />
• Managing and contributing to the implementation of the strategic and work plans, and taking appropriate corrective actions as necessary;<br />
• Working to ensure sufficient funds are received to adequately support the work of the COINAtlantic and the COINAtlantic Secretariat and effectively managing these funds to meet objectives;<br />
• Providing direction and guidance to other members of the Secretariat.<br />
<br />
Qualifications:<br />
• Extensive knowledge of coastal and ocean management and its practitioners and practises in Atlantic Canada;<br />
• Knowledge of the principles and technologies for the open sharing of data and information including specifically the collection and management of ocean observations and their uses;<br />
• Experience in organizing the activities of an organization including financial, technical and human resource management;<br />
• Experience in developing project proposals and acquiring funding;<br />
• Ability to communicate in writing and orally and to prepare and deliver public presentations;<br />
• Ability to develop and execute effective plans at the strategic and operational level;<br />
• Ability to create innovative approaches to developing and delivering programs and products;<br />
• Ability to explain the benefits of ICOM and open sharing of data and information especially ocean observations;<br />
• Capable of working in a team and encouraging other team members;<br />
• Capable of interacting with practitioners and stakeholders in coastal and ocean management and ocean observation.<br />
<br />
Location: The COINAtlantic Secretariat’s office is located in Halifax, NS.<br />
<br />
Start: The preferred start date is 1 April 2019.<br />
<br />
Remuneration will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and consistent with available funding of the ACZISC Association.<br />
