Position: Organic vegetable farming<br />
Organization: Front Porch Farm<br />
Location: Margaree Forks, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia<br />
<br />
We are currently looking for one or two interns to live on the farm and help out wih all aspects of growing organic vegetables for CSA and farmers markets.<br />
<br />
Interships start in May and finish at the end of October.<br />
<br />
Preference will be given to those with previous experience working on organic farms especially those with experience working in market gardens.<br />
<br />
Candidates will be expected to work 35-45 hours per week, Monday-Friday with the ocasional weekend to cover irrigation, ventillation and feeding animals.<br />
<br />
Rooms are available in the century old farm house; shared meals twice a day plus lots of organic food to cook at other times.<br />
<br />
Front Porch Farm is a mixed farm speciallizing in high quality organic vegetables. We sell through a CSA, farmers markets and to local restaurants. We also pasture about 15 sheep, 24 laying hens and use our donkey Jerry as livestock protection and also to preform various tasks around the farm.<br />
<br />
We grow 1.5 acres vegetables (and some fruit) on permanent raised beds in a no-till system.<br />
<br />
Our farm also takes on a cultural role in the community by hosting workshops, concert and other gatherings.<br />
<br />
The Margaree is a great community located on the west coast of Cape Breton Island. It's a great place to spend a season with nearby beaches, rivers, square dances, hiking trails and more.<br />
