Position: Fisheries Biologist<br />
Organization: Peskotomuhkati Nation at Skutik<br />
Location: St. Stephen, New Brunswick<br />
<br />
The Peskotomuhkati Nation at Skutik is seeking a Fisheries Biologist to join their Quoddy Restoration program. The successful candidate will be based in St. Stephen, NB and be responsible for:<br />
• Installing and maintaining monitoring equipment at prescribed locations<br />
• Visiting field sites to assess equipment and download data where available<br />
• Reviewing collected data for efficiency and effectiveness of fish passage<br />
• Working with others to review data collection and evaluation plan<br />
• Producing project reports<br />
• Carrying out stream restoration activities that may include, but are not limited to<br />
• Culvert improvement and replacement<br />
• Removal of structures impeding fish passage<br />
• Improving performance of existing fishways<br />
• Installation of in-stream environmental improvements (digger logs, wing deflectors, etc.)<br />
• Implement erosion control measures<br />
• Conducting in-situ fish passage barrier surveys<br />
• Assessing fish passage options and opportunities<br />
• Contributing to the production of a detailed restoration plan including prioritization for action<br />
• Coordinating and recording meetings of project stakeholders and partners<br />
• Tracking and reporting on project activities and deliverables<br />
<br />
Qualifications:<br />
<br />
The successful candidate possesses, at a minimum, the following qualifications:<br />
• Graduate degree in related field (biology, aquatics, environmental science, etc.)<br />
• Established experience in field work specific to region and environments<br />
• An awareness of, and sensitivity towards, Aboriginal issues generally, and Peskotomuhkati goals specifically, will be considered an asset<br />
• Experience analyzing large biological data sets<br />
• Knowledge of and experience using underwater sonar monitoring equipment<br />
• Ability to work in a culturally-diverse and dynamic working environment<br />
• Excellent attention to detail, including data management and field safety<br />
• Valid drivers license is a requirement<br />
• Ability to travel locally, regionally and internationally is a requirement<br />
• Ability to work alone or as part of a team, unsupervised<br />
• Self-motivated, with capacity and experience to begin, manage, and successfully complete multiple environmental management projects in aquatic environments<br />
