Position: Making Tracks Coordinator<br />

The Ecology Action Centre is an environmental charity based in Nova Scotia. We take leadership on critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice. We are grounded in community, and are a strong voice and watchdog for our environment. We work to catalyze change through policy advocacy, community development, and building awareness. We take a holistic approach to the environment and our economy to create a just and sustainable society.<br />

The Ecology Action Centres Sustainable Transportation team works to increase the use of transportation modes, like walking, cycling, and transit use, in Nova Scotia that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote healthy communities, and ensure equitable access for all.<br />
<br />
POSITION<br />
<br />
The Making Tracks Coordinator oversees the Making Tracks program, which helps participants develop active transportation (cycling and walking) skill competency, confidence and safety, encouraging them to choose active transportation as a means to travel within their communities. The position oversees the implementation, evaluation and expansion of the program. The Making Tracks Coordinator works within the Sustainable Transportation Team. The Making Tracks Coordinator reports to the staff directors.<br />
<br />
Duties include:<br />
Coordinate and work to expand the Making Tracks (MT) program in Nova Scotia.<br />
Maintain a pool of qualified expert trainers throughout the province.<br />
Recruit schools and organizations to deliver MT modules, and provide support to schools, groups and trainers in implementing MT.<br />
Coordinate MT train-the-trainer sessions and direct delivery programs for schools and organizations.<br />
Deliver MT train-the-trainer and direct delivery programs when needed.<br />
Produce/revise MT communication materials.<br />
Conduct MT project evaluation and final reporting.<br />
Take the lead on ongoing grant writing to ensure program sustainability.<br />
Work with Youth Active Transportation Coordinator on MT coordination and evaluation.<br />
Assist in promoting and implementing EAC active transportation projects.<br />
Support the overall work of the Ecology Action Centre.<br />
Other duties as required.<br />

QUALIFICATIONS<br />
<br />
Required skills and experience:<br />
Knowledge of or experience with safe cycling/walking education, such as Making Tracks<br />
Experience in active transportation work<br />
Experience teaching children and youth<br />
Trustworthy and reliable<br />
High level of attention to detail and accuracy<br />
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously<br />
Initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team<br />
Positive problem-solving attitude<br />
Excellent interpersonal skills<br />
Strong written and oral communication skills<br />
Solid working knowledge of Windows and MS Office, including strong Excel skills<br />
Commitment to social and environmental justice<br />
<br />
Desired skills and experience<br />
Experience recruiting, training and managing staff or contract employees<br />
Experience writing funding proposals<br />
<br />
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT<br />
<br />
Start: mid-April 2019<br />
<br />
35 hours per week at $22/hr, pending confirmation of funding. (Opportunity to begin at part-time hours prior to final confirmation.)<br />
<br />
Cost-shared benefits plan and 4 weeks paid vacation per year.<br />
<br />
Regular schedule is Monday to Friday, with some evening and weekend work required.<br />
<br />
Location: This position will be based at our Halifax office at 2705 Fern Lane, with the option to work from another location in the province if desired.<br />
