Term: 14-Weeks, 37.5 hours/week (some evening and weekend work required)<br />

Wage: $13.50/hour, with housing included<br />

Eligibility: Due to funding requirements candidates must be returning to full-time studies in Fall 2019<br />

About the HLC<br />
<br />
The Harrison Lewis Coastal Discovery Centre was founded in 2007 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation of the natural environment and local history. Located on Nova Scotia's South Shore, the Centre offers outstanding opportunities to explore, research, and experience the living landscape. Facilities include five rustic cabins (accommodating up to two dozen researchers, workshop participants, and/or guests), a communal kitchen, community gathering space, and science lab. Diverse programming is offered throughout the summer and into the fall, including coastal conservation research, rural lifestyle development workshops, and self-care retreats. About the Position<br />
<br />
The Program Assistant will help to develop, host, and promote programs, events, and activities relating to natural history and rural life skills workshops. The position will address local priorities through programs for diverse demographics (e.g. seniors, families, etc), including the promotion and enhancement of nature tourism, the arts, culture, fitness, and heritage-focused workshops. Activities include:<br />
Assisting the Field Station Manager with program development and scheduling,<br />
Promoting events and programming (including print and social media),<br />
Establishing positive connections and partnerships with local businesses, NGOs, and community members,<br />
Overseeing and participating in tasks relating to guest comfort and experience during nature-based programs and events.<br />
<br />
Qualifications & Requirements<br />
<br />
Essential:<br />
Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program focusing on tourism (ideally eco-tourism), natural resource management, environmental science, environmental technology or similar field<br />
Experience with social media management and promotions<br />
Experience planning and implementing events and/or programs<br />
Interest in working in a position with diverse day-to-day activities with a willingness to adapt to changing tasks<br />
Interest in rural and outdoor living and/or environmental sustainability and education<br />
Desire to be an essential member of a small team working towards the establishment of a sustainably-minded community<br />
<br />
Preferred:<br />
Customer service and/or hospitality experience<br />
Organized and self-motivated<br />
Positive and enthusiastic attitude<br />
Familiarity with Nova Scotias South Shore is an asset<br />
