Position: Environmental / Socioeconomic Data Compiler – Summer 2019<br />

COINAtlantic (Coastal and Ocean Information Network – Atlantic) is a non-governmental organization that promotes, facilitates and influences information management as well as policies and programs that enhance Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management (ICOM) in Atlantic Canada. COINAtlantic promotes the sustainable use of oceans and coasts through special events like World Ocean Day, and our open access Geospatial Tools, website, newsletter and projects with partner organizations.<br />
<br />
Position Description:<br />
<br />
The Environmental / Socioeconomic Data Compiler will research the availability of environmental and socioeconomic data from a wide range of sources including government, university and non-governmental organizations and prepare a database for the geographic areas of interest (Saint John Harbour, NB and the Southern Gulf of Saint Lawrence). The data compiler will conduct data rescue procedures on selected priority data sets to make a digital version openly available on the internet for the geographic areas of interest. The position also includes website maintenance using a Content Management System by reviewing and correcting Uniform Resource Locators to external resources, and adding new information and resource links especially to those dealing with coastal tourism, urban land use planning and climate change adaption.<br />

Desired Qualifications: <br />
• A student or graduate of post-secondary studies in the following fields: oceanography, geology, biology, engineering, or environmental science.<br />
• Experience with website design and maintenance and/or using website content management systems.<br />
• Knowledge of the Atlantic coastal and ocean sector, its stakeholders and agencies.<br />
• Knowledge of geomatics and data management experience.<br />
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.<br />
<br />
Length of position: 8 weeks<br />
<br />
Remuneration: 30 hours per week at $13.5/hour plus 4% vacation pay.<br />
<br />
Employment Requirement: This position is funded in part by Employment and Social Development Canada through its Canada Summer Jobs Program. To be eligible, the applicant must:<br />
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;<br />
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,<br />
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.<br />
<br />
Priority will be given to students with disabilities, aboriginal students, or students who are members of a visible minority and who meet the desired qualifications.<br />
