Wage: $19.50-22.00/hour depending upon experience<br />

About the Atlantic Water Network<br />
<br />
Atlantic Water Network provides equipment, training, and resources for water monitoring organisations and communities throughout Atlantic Canada. We are the regional lead on Atlantic DataStream, an open access data hub for water quality data. We work with organisations on both a national and regional scale to improve data collection at the community level.<br />
<br />
Atlantic Water Network will be hosting the Atlantic AquaHacking challenge in 2020. This clean-tech competition is open to university students and youth from 18-35 to find technical solutions to some of Atlantic Canada’s major water issues.<br />
<br />
AWN’s mission is to build capacity among stewardship and watershed organisations by providing access to water monitoring and conservation resources such as standardised training via WET-Pro YSI water monitoring kits, a secure and open access data hub (Atlantic DataStream), and the free use of our Environmental Monitoring Equipment Bank.<br />
<br />
Job Description & Responsibilities<br />
<br />
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing Atlantic Canadian initiative. The successful candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience in program management, relationship building, grant writing and communications. This a 1 year contract with possibility of renewal based on the project evolution. The hired Coordinator will report to and work closely with AWN’s Director to successfully host the AquaHacking tech-based, water-focused challenge in Atlantic Canada.<br />
<br />
Key responsibilities: <br />
• Develop strong relationships with Atlantic universities, departments and professors to promote AquaHacking and recruit students to the challenge;<br />
• Coordinate workshops and recruitment sessions for the AquaHacking challenge at various locations and venues in Atlantic Canada;<br />
• Research local water issues, and build relationships with water issues leaders ;<br />
• Occasionally represent AWN and the Atlantic AquaHacking challenge at water events across the Atlantic region and possibly at national events; though rare, these may take place in evenings or weekends;<br />
• Participate in program development by writing and editing grant applications and researching potential funding sources;<br />
• Liaise with the AquaHacking Central team and logistical teams to coordinate Atlantic AquaHacking challenge;<br />
• Event coordination and planning of AquaHacking events;<br />
• Participate in expanding the AWN’s regional impact through the organisation of facilitation of data related events such as AWN’s upcoming data management workshops;<br />
• Assist in administrative tasks, including partner outreach and correspondence, website maintenance, and communications (mostly via social media and newsletters).<br />
<br />
Required Qualifications <br />
• Passion for the environment and water quality coupled with the desire to work for a non-profit;<br />
• Knowledge of major water issues facing Atlantic Canada;<br />
• Experience in both freshwater and marine water settings;<br />
• Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience;<br />
• Post secondary degree in a related field;<br />
• Understanding of water quality monitoring or research;<br />
• Experience in event coordination and planning;<br />
• Excellent organisation, communication and problem-solving skills;<br />
• Strong writing and editing skills;<br />
• Curious, self-motivated, and capable of building lasting relationships;<br />
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently;<br />
• Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada;<br />
• Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations;<br />
• Full driver’s license.<br />
<br />
Desired Qualifications<br />
• Basic knowledge of water monitoring techniques, methodologies, and protocols is an asset, but all required training will be provided;<br />
• Tenacity and creativity in project and program management<br />
• Experience with planning and managing events, sticking to a budget, and grant writing;<br />
• Experience with wordpress, hootsuite, mailchimp and other communication tools;<br />
• Proficient with MS Officer, and Google Drive.<br />
• Experience in graphic design<br />

This is a 1-year contract position with opportunity for renewal based on funding and program development. The position is based at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, NS.<br />
