Position: Conservation Engagement Intern<br />

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is the nation's leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the species they sustain. Since 1962, NCC and its partners have helped to conserve 14 million hectares (35 million acres), coast to coast to coast.<br />
<br />
Purpose and General Description:<br />
<br />
The Conservation Engagement Intern will assist with the coordination and delivery of NCCs Conservation Volunteers Program, designed to engage individuals of all ages in performing priority stewardship work on, or simply enjoying and learning more about NCCs conservation properties. The Intern will also assist in the planning and delivery of outreach and educational events on NCC properties, and will interact with volunteer Property Stewards and contribute to other Stewardship program fieldwork and reporting as required.<br />

Duties and Responsibilities:<br />
Assist the with fieldwork and other stewardship activities as needed and manage that data;<br />
Assist with the volunteer Property Steward program;<br />
Liaise with NCC Atlantic Region Volunteer Program staff to coordinate tasks and activities;<br />
Manage volunteer data and event metrics (paperwork, evaluations, participant follow-up) and organize data collected from the events (bird inventories, measurement of work accomplished, etc.);<br />
Deliver the events, with the assistance of other NCC staff, meeting NCC health and safety requirements for volunteer events;<br />
Promote events and recruit participants;<br />
Lead the planning and coordination of Conservation Volunteer events and outreach events;<br />

Required Skills and Attributes:<br />
<br />
This posting is targeted to someone possessing the following skills and abilities:<br />
Valid Drivers License and able to rent a car (must be at least 21 years of age to rent);<br />
Familiarity with common computer software (Microsoft Office Suite, graphics programs);<br />
Wilderness or Standard First Aid training;<br />
Demonstrated interest in natural history and land conservation, basic plant and wildlife identification skills and an understanding of conservation issues are an asset;<br />
Comfortable in a dynamic setting, including outdoor environments, under various weather conditions (e.g. temperature and precipitation extremes) and in variable terrain;<br />
Fluency in both English and French is a strong asset (NB);<br />
Interest in public engagement and communicating conservation messages;<br />
Experience organizing events;<br />
Strong communication and public speaking skills;<br />
Proactive and capable of working independently;<br />
Attention to detail with excellent time management and organizational abilities;<br />
University or college student preferably entering 3rd or 4th year, or recent graduate.<br />
<br />
Terms of Employment:<br />
Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.<br />
Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;<br />
The position is based out of Fredericton, NB but require the ability to travel throughout the province to prepare for and attend events. Most events take place on weekends and some will require overnight travel. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.<br />
Candidates must have been attending university or college in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Math (STEAM) and Business in the semester leading up to the May 4, 2020 start date.<br />
This is a full-time, 16-week (May 4 August 21, 2020) position. Salary is $17/hour ($637.50/week).<br />
