Position: Specialist – Environment and Climate Change Education Research<br />
Organization: Clean Foundation<br />

Summary of the Program/Project:<br />

Clean Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental, charitable environment organization created in 1988 through an Act of Legislature in Nova Scotia. Clean Foundation works in the traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq Peoples for a clean climate and clean water – and to support these foundations of a clean economy, fosters clean leaders of all ages.<br />

The EnviroEd department at Clean works explicitly with learners and educators, normally in a school setting, through experiential and inquiry-based workshops. We are seeking an experienced curriculum researcher to support the development of a comprehensive Environmental and Climate Change Education Framework.<br />
<br />
Summary of the Position:<br />
<br />
The Environment & Climate Change Education Researcher, in partnership with the Manager – Education Initiative and the Director – Education and Engagement, will support the development of a P-12 Framework through extensive research, synthesis, consultation, and identification of and collaboration with stakeholders.<br />
<br />
Responsibilities:<br />
• Create a research plan to guide the work over the term, to be approved by the Manager – Education Initiatives<br />
• Conduct research on existing environmental education and/or climate change education frameworks in other regions and countries<br />
• Complete a cross-curricular gap analysis that identifies opportunities for teaching climate change at each grade level within the province of Nova Scotia<br />
• Identify developmentally appropriate approaches to teaching EE/CCE at various grade levels within a Nova Scotian regional context<br />
• Working with the Manager and Director identify key stakeholders (teachers, curriculum experts, Indigenous knowledge holders, etc.) to be consulted in the development of the Framework<br />
• Develop a survey tool to engage teachers and gather input throughout the development process<br />
• Conduct ongoing research and networking in order to stay current on environmental and climate change education and curriculum<br />
• Perform other job duties in support of the organization.<br />
<br />
Qualifications<br />
• A degree in Education with a deep understanding of Nova Scotian school curriculum<br />
• Experience (3+ years) in education and/or curriculum research, program design, or related work<br />
• Experience teaching environmental education with a focus on climate change considered an asset<br />
• Strong understanding of climate change and other environmental topics<br />
• Understanding of and/or willingness to learn about Mi’kmaw perspectives, including Two-Eyed seeing<br />
• Strong ability to synthesize and present researched information<br />
• Strong written communication skills, particularly with report writing<br />
• Strong organizational and time management skills<br />
• Ability to work independently and virtually (some office work may be available, subject to public health guidelines)<br />
• Comfort with Microsoft 365 Office Suite<br />
