Position: Market Manager<br />
Organization: Halifax Brewery Farmers Market<br />
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia<br />
Hours: 18 hours weekly (see below)<br />

The Halifax Brewery Farmers market is located in downtown Halifax's (Kjipuktuk) historic Brewery Square. Stroll through our bustling courtyards and visit the rooms of a 200-year-old, granite & ironstone heritage building. Meet local, small-scale farmers, & artisans, and enjoy freshly-prepared food in a traditional market setting.<br />

ABOUT THE POSITION<br />

The Market Manager will be the primary contact for Vendors and will be responsible for overseeing the set up and operations of the weekly Saturday market. They will work as part of a team that includes other staff, the co-op board and volunteers. Halifax Brewery Farmers Market seeks to provide locally grown and harvested food, locally made prepared foods and crafts in a festive atmosphere in the historic Alexander Keith Building in downtown Halifax. The candidate will bring enthusiasm and dedication to operating the weekly Saturday farmers market. They will provide coordination to the weekly market and develop programming for the farmers market. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food, local farming and agriculture.<br />

This is a renewable, one-year contract.<br />
<br />
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP<br />
<br />
This position reports directly to the cooperatives Program Coordinator.<br />
<br />
RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
<br />
Market Day duties include:<br />
Setup the market<br />
Setup tables according to the market map & label tables for new vendors<br />
Put out market signage<br />
Record any tardy vendors or no-shows<br />
Throughout market<br />
Take ample photographs for future use and for day-of use on Facebook and Instagram<br />
Collect vendor rent<br />
Staff the Information Booth<br />
Provide customer service to market customers and vendors<br />
Provide create solutions to any problems arising throughout the day<br />
Tear down the market<br />
Ensure proper use of waste diversion systems & open door to waste sorting room<br />
Perform cash reconciliation (Info Booth sales and Vendor Table fees)<br />
Bring in market signage<br />
Check vendor booths for cleanliness & ensure all tables in the Upper and Lower Courtyard have been put away<br />
<br />
Weekday duties include:<br />
Administrative work. (Book Buskers, Chef demos, educational events, special events & promotions)<br />
Active Vendor Recruitment. Establish and maintain relationships with farmers and other market vendors, recruit vendors as needed, and administer vendor applications. Ensure all new vendors are aware of Market Guidelines.<br />
Create weekly market map<br />
Represent the market in meetings with external stakeholders, building positive community relations.<br />
<br />
QUALIFICATIONS<br />
Experience in fast-paced event coordination. Administration, communication & marketing are all required skills. You must possess self-directed time management ability. Grant writing experience is an asset.<br />
Passion for locally produced food, involvement in local food politics, regular participation in a Farmers Market community.<br />
Enthusiasm for and understanding of the not-for-profit and cooperative sectors. Sympathetic to the historic buildings and Nova Scotias Farmers Market community.<br />
Physical ability to setup/ tear down tables, signs, etc.<br />
Current Safe Food Handling Certificate, or be willing to complete certification prior to start date.<br />

POSITION DETAILS<br />
<br />
This is a part-time flexible position requiring a commitment of 18 hours weekly at a rate of $20/hour. Work hours and location are flexible outside of market hours. Availability on Market Days (Saturdays) is required, starting early morning.<br />
