WHO WE ARE<br />

The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) is an environmental charity based in Miꞌkmaꞌki/Nova Scotia. We take leadership on critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice. We are grounded in community and are a strong voice and watchdog for our environment. We work to catalyze change through policy advocacy, community development and building awareness. We take a holistic approach to the environment and our economy to create a just and sustainable society.<br />

We are seeking a full-time Communications Officer, reporting to the Strategic Communications Manager. This individual will help manage communications channels and assist in the development of communications materials for web, press, print, social media as well as supporting the updates to our website<br />
<br />
WHO YOU ARE<br />
<br />
You are passionate about communications, writing and are considered an engaging content creator for diverse audiences across various platforms including website, email, social media and traditional media. You are also very tech savvy, with hands-on content management systems (CSM) experience, preferably with extensive knowledge of Drupal.<br />
<br />
You are a self-starter and a strong writer eager to put your skills to use in the non-profit world. You thrive working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are very organized and detail-oriented with an eye for editing.<br />
<br />
WHAT YOU WILL BRING<br />
Experience in creative writing and story-telling with the ability to generate actionable content for a range of medium including press releases, social media, email and web content<br />
Demonstrated experience simplifying complex ideas for a range of audiences<br />
Excellent social media acumen, with experience crafting engaging content, responding to feedback and monitoring analytics<br />
Familiarity with web design and site maintenance.<br />
Keen interest on emerging trends in communications<br />
Proven project planning/management skills<br />
Ability to respond quickly to developing situations, effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks<br />
An interest in social and environmental change<br />
<br />
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL HOLD<br />
Create, organize, coordinate and update website content<br />
Write, edit and distribute press releases and respond to media requests.<br />
Create organic social media content, respond to inquiries, monitor, analyze and report on social media performance as it relates to campaign goals.<br />
Help with editing and compilation of Ecology & Action Magazine.<br />
Assist with the implementation of individual team communications plans and campaigns.<br />
Organize teams' website needs, gather resources and support our website update<br />
Ensure brand consistency across public-facing channels.<br />
Basic graphic design tasks with Canva<br />
<br />
WHAT YOU NEED<br />
Experience using Drupal, WordPress or comparable Content Management System<br />
Experience using CiviCRM or other CRMs<br />
Experience implementing communications plans, specifically by developing written and digital assets that help meet the goals of a campaign.<br />
Solid training in communications and writing, such as a degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism or a related field<br />
One or more years of professional experience in a related field<br />
Experience using Canva, InDesign and Photoshop<br />
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively<br />
Understanding of environmental issues in Mi?kma?ki/Nova Scotia<br />
Project management experience considered an asset<br />
Experience creating photo/video content for social media also an asset<br />

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:<br />
Start Date: Late August 2021 to the end of September 2021<br />
37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri)<br />
Starting salary is $19.00 per hour (based on relevant experience)<br />
Cost shared benefits plan and 4-weeks paid vacation per year<br />
One-year contact with the possibility of an extension<br />
