Position: Stewardship Coordinator<br />
Organization: Clean Annapolis River Project<br />
Location of work: based out of CARPs Annapolis Royal office. Field sites will primarily be within the Annapolis River watershed (Town of Digby through western Kings County), but in some cases may be located elsewhere in Nova Scotia. Field activities will take place on a combination of public and private lands.<br />
<br />
Start date: As soon as possible <br />
End date: March 31, 2022 (with the possibility of extension)<br />
Remuneration: $16.00- $17.51/hour, depending on experience<br />
<br />
Job Description/Responsibilities: <br />
<br />
The Stewardship Coordinator will work under the direction of the Program Manager in a supportive and cooperative team environment. The Stewardship Coordinator will be responsible for leading and/or assisting with the delivery of a variety of projects that focus on different ecosystems and/or land-use types. At present this is confirmed to include work focused on the Annapolis Valley sand barrens (a.k.a.broom crowberry sand barren), wetland restoration in partnership with the Town of Middleton, and may include stormwater management/green infrastructure projects with municipalities within the watershed.<br />

The successful candidate will be required to work with a broad range of stakeholders and partners, and to cultivate and maintain working relationships with these groups and individuals. The candidate will be required to become familiar with and utilize a variety of conservation planning tools and frameworks, including the Open Standards for Conservation.<br />
<br />
This position will require a mix of office and field work. The successful candidate will be required to use their personal vehicle for work travel and will be compensated according to the prevailing provincial mileage rate. The candidate must have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and be comfortable working with members of the public and partners from external organizations.<br />
<br />
Specific tasks may include:<br />
The identification and execution of strategies for effective landowner engagement in stewardship activities and programs;<br />
Planning and participation in public outreach events to support landowner/community engagement in stewardship activities;<br />
Field-based assessments such as general habitat assessments, species at risk surveys, or riparian health assessments;<br />
Planning and delivery of school-based or extra-curricular educational programs;<br />
Citizen science volunteer training and volunteer support;<br />
Site identification, planning and coordination for habitat restoration and enhancement activities;<br />
Habitat restoration or enhancement activities such as tree planting or creation of bioswales;<br />
Coordination with external partners to deliver collaborative projects, identify project synergies or partnership opportunities;<br />
Report writing for a variety of audiences, including project funders, private landowners, or members of the public;<br />
Production of maps using GIS for planning or reporting purposes;<br />
Research and data synthesis or analysis;<br />
Representation of CARP at workshops, meetings or conferences;<br />
Participation in staff meetings and project planning meetings as required.<br />
<br />
Qualifications:<br />
College or university degree in a related field (environmental science, biology, agriculture, forestry, etc.)<br />
A valid Nova Scotia drivers license and access to a vehicle<br />
Excellent communication skills<br />
General knowledge of Nova Scotias biodiversity<br />
Competency in a variety of computer software programs for word processing, data entry/analysis, and graphic design<br />
<br />
Preferred experience:<br />
Private land management or extension services<br />
Habitat restoration and enhancement<br />
Report or technical writing<br />
Data entry, processing and analysis<br />
Workshop or event planning and/or facilitation<br />
Mapping or other applications using ArcGIS<br />
Experience working within southwest Nova Scotia<br />
Experience conducting botanical surveys<br />
