TransCoastal Adaptations (TCA) is a Centre of Expertise for nature-based adaptation to climate change at Saint Marys University (SMU). Our mission is to help build climate resilient coastal communities and ecosystems by protecting, enhancing, and restoring natural processes through innovative research and collaboration; implementing nature-based adaptation solutions (<a href="http://www.transcoastaladaptations.com" title="http://www.transcoastaladaptations.com">http://www.transcoastaladaptations.com</a>).<br />

TCA builds on two decades of collaboration and expertise in coastal habitat restoration, climate change vulnerability assessment and adaptation, coastal geomorphology, land use planning and applied research.<br />

About Our Opportunity <br />
<br />
The Communications and Engagement Officer will join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team that is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They will be responsible for managing and creating social media content, quarterly newsletter updates to project partners and funders, and educational materials, as well as contributing to the preparation of project deliverables. They will also coordinate the delivery of virtual webinars, workshops, partner meetings and related virtual and in-person events. They will coordinate internal communications for the Centre and will be responsible for communicating with TCAs partner organizations and collaborators to maintain relationships and help move individual projects and our mission forward. They will work with the TCA Project Manager in the delivery of Green Shores Training and the coordination of local government working groups. Key Areas of Responsibility: <br />
Managing and creating content for website, social media, newsletters, and other communication materials;<br />
Implementing and expanding communications and social media strategies;<br />
Developing educational material on nature-based climate adaptation strategies and promoting these approaches;<br />
Communicating and engaging with TCA partner groups regionally, nationally and internationally;<br />
Managing internal communications including coordination of weekly team meetings and activities;<br />
Supporting the delivery of Green Shores Training and the coordination of local government working groups in the Atlantic Region;<br />
Developing presentations and other communication materials and graphics;<br />
Coordinating the delivery of virtual webinars, workshops, partner meetings and related virtual and in-person events;<br />
Maintaining and enhancing the TCA resources library;<br />
Writing, editing and formatting reports and project deliverables as required.<br />
<br />
Position Requirements/Qualifications: <br />
Completion of post-graduate education in a related field such as geography, environmental science, environmental management, earth sciences, communications, or related field; or equivalent experience;<br />
Minimum 2 years of related experience;<br />
Experience in event planning and/or webinar delivery;<br />
Demonstrated experience in relationship building and engagement;<br />
Must have strong written and oral communication skills;<br />
Must have strong organizational and time management skills;<br />
Must be highly motivated, independent and hard-working;<br />
Demonstrated ability to communicate and engage diverse stakeholders and rightsholders including NGOs, community groups and individuals, municipal planners, scientists, First Nations communities and decision makers;<br />
In-depth understanding of climate change impacts and adaptation in coastal regions;<br />
Position is based at Saint Marys University in Halifax, flexible work opportunities available but in-person work required;<br />
Experience with graphic design and communications software such as Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Mailchimp, or InDesign is considered an asset;<br />
Must be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada.<br />
