The Echo Pond Environmental Education Centre (previously known as the Brother Brennan Centre) is seeking an Environmental Educator for the spring season, May-June, 2022.<br />
<br />
About the Centre:<br />
<br />
The Centre is located in the beautiful boreal ‘Fog Forest’ of the Avalon Peninsula, off of Salmonier Line. It is about 1 hour 15 minutes from St. John’s.<br />
<br />
School groups visit the Centre for 2-day overnight field trips during the fall and spring of each year. During these field trips, students engage in hands-on, experiential learning activities that help them connect with nature and bring their school-learning to life in the real world.<br />
<br />
Environmental Educator role:<br />
<br />
With support from the Education Director, Environmental Educators work as a team to lead a variety of activities related to climate change, biodiversity, ecosystems, and food sustainability. Some of the activities include: nature journaling, orienteering, shelter-building, night hikes, storytelling and campfires.<br />
<br />
Qualifications and skills:<br />
• Has degree or diploma (or working toward degree or diploma) in Environmental Studies, Geography, Natural Sciences, Education, or equivalent experience<br />
• Has demonstrated ability and likes to work with children<br />
• Has an interest and knowledge in ecology, sustainability and the environment<br />
• Has an interest in teaching and leading educational activities and games<br />
• Enjoys being active and is comfortable in a wilderness setting<br />
• Works well in a team environment<br />
• Is adaptable, motivated and caring<br />
<br />
Pay is $15/hour with 24 hours in a shift. Shifts run from 9am one day, to 5pm the next (staying overnight is required). Both part-time and full-time positions are available (1 shift or 2 shifts per week). An overtime rate of $22.50/hour is paid when working more than 40 hours per week. Meals are provided.<br />
<br />
Own transport is preferred, but there may be opportunities for carpooling.<br />
<br />
Training:<br />
<br />
There will be a paid, 3-day leadership training for this position that will take place on-site at the Echo Pond Environmental Education Centre. Participation in the training is required for the position.<br />
