Position: Executive Director<br />
Organization: Cape Breton Food Hub<br />
Location: Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia (within reasonable commuting distance of Bras D'or)<br />
<br />
The Pan Cape Breton Food Hub Co-op is seeking a new Executive Director to lead the organization through its exciting next phase of growth and development.<br />
<br />
As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced leader and strategic thinker with exceptional relationship building abilities and an entrepreneurial nature. You have a passion for the local food economy and know how to achieve results by combining good business sense with solid operational and people management skills. With a desire to exceed targets, you are able to execute plans for business development. Your success in this role is driven by your experience capitalizing on growth opportunities, building lasting relationships, and leading/motivating teams.<br />

As Executive Director you will report directly to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for the overall strategic, financial, and operational responsibility of the Food Hub.<br />
<br />
Areas of Focus<br />
Organizational Leadership and Business Development<br />
• Act as key liaison between the Board of Directors and staff to ensure effective flow of information<br />
• Take the lead in growing new revenue streams such as meal kits, institutional sales and value-added products and identify further opportunities for revenue growth.<br />
• Establish/maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as co-op members, volunteers, government partners, community organizations, funders, sponsors, etc.<br />
• Positively promote the organization as its primary representative and spokesperson.<br />
• Coordinate, attend and report at monthly Board meetings, the AGM and committee meetings, as required.<br />
<br />
Operational and Financial Management<br />
• Provide oversight to staff on day-to-day operations to ensure alignment with the organization’s vision, mission, and business plan and to ensure adherence to organizational processes and procedures.<br />
• Determine staffing needs to support effective operations and take the lead role in recruiting, hiring, and managing staff.<br />
• Have ownership of effective financial management by creating the annual budget and managing the organization within budget constraints.<br />
• Identify grant opportunities, write proposals, complete reporting requirements, and present to funders, as needed.<br />
<br />
Community Engagement and Fundraising<br />
• Identify opportunities for collaboration with new and existing community partners in initiatives that are in line with the Food Hub’s vision and mission.<br />
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors on corporate sponsorship recruitment and fundraising initiatives.<br />

Qualifications<br />
<br />
Recognizing that combinations of skills and experience vary, the successful candidate will have a solid mix of the following:<br />
• Post secondary education in a relevant field.<br />
• 5+ years working in a leadership capacity.<br />
• Experience reporting to a Board of Directors.<br />
• An understanding of the local food economy and local food issues.<br />
• Results oriented and highly motivated to meet/exceed goals and targets.<br />
• Sales, marketing and/or contract negotiation experience.<br />
• Strong business sense and understanding of KPIs.<br />
• Excellent relationship building abilities.<br />
• Confident and articulate written and oral communicator.<br />
• Keen to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.<br />
• Proven leader and ability to empower and encourage staff.<br />

About The Cape Breton Food Hub<br />
<br />
The Pan Cape Breton Food Hub Co-op is a non-profit organization that strives to create a stronger local food economy in Cape Breton by operating an online marketplace, running a retail store, managing a commercial kitchen and creating value added products through its production facility, while also engaging in educational and food security activities.<br />
<br />
Our Vision: A healthy food economy that supports a growing diversity of producers and consumers on Cape Breton Island.<br />
<br />
Our Mission: The Pan Cape Breton Food Hub Co-op Ltd. provides a distribution linkage between local food producers and consumers, creating a more sustainable food system by increasing the viability of local producers while improving access to high quality local food.<br />

Details<br />
<br />
Hours are negotiable for this position but are funded for approximately 20 hours per week. As the individual responsible for the organization’s growth and development, you would have the opportunity to increase your hours.<br />
<br />
The wage range is $25-35 an hour, based on experience and qualifications, with the potential for an annual bonus based on achieving set targets.<br />
<br />
