Position Summary:<br />

Come join a dynamic staff at Nova Scotias premier hands-on science centre. As a Climate Action Facilitator, you will be responsible for delivering a positive visitor experience either through visitor interactions and activities or through behind the scenes preparation of education materials and documents. The facilitator will be also involved in the development and delivery of lessons for youth on climate change. The material covered will be local in nature and relate to a variety of climate change topics. The role may support online inquiry-based education which may involve communicating concepts virtually or via video recordings.<br />

Qualifications:<br />
<br />
Applicants must currently be eligible for the Young Canada Works Building Careers in Heritage Program. Combination of education, science, or other related disciplines at a university level. Experience in child supervision, preferably in an educational, recreational, museum or camp setting. Experience in preparing and presenting workshops an asset. Fluency in English is essential, proficiency in French considered a strong asset. First Aid and WHIMIS certification is an asset.<br />
<br />
The facilitator is a highly motivated, high-energy individual with passion for engaging the public in STEAM activities. They must have excellent communication skills.<br />
<br />
This position will give the incumbent the experience of working within a team setting, researching, and developing materials that can be easily presented to youth of all ages. The incumbent will benefit from the opportunity to improve upon their organizational, collaboration, and facilitation skills, advance their climate change knowledge and knowledge of educational practices. The incumbent will have regular check-in meetings and be supported in their professional development throughout the term.<br />

Work plan tasks:<br />
Orientation to the centre, including training on fire safety, facilitation, de-escalation, incident reporting and other relevant protocols of the centre.<br />
Orientation to the ongoing climate action initiatives, identifying sources for activities, meetings with team members (science education staff team).<br />
Develop a minimum of 4 hands-on activities related to climate change topics with the assistance of team members and the manager of youth climate action.<br />
Prepare and present report on created activities and the overall experience with the centre.<br />
