Hiring: Communications Coordinator<br />
Organization: Hike Nova Scotia<br />
Location: Remote within Nova Scotia (must be a current NS resident)<br />

Hike Nova Scotia is a nonprofit organization that encourages and promotes a growing hiking culture throughout our great province. We strive to be the voice for those who hike, walk and snowshoe as well as those who build and maintain hiking trails.<br />
<br />
Job Description / Responsibilities<br />
<br />
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting the work of Hike NS and its projects through the development and management of our various communications tools. The role of this full-time, permanent position is to help grow and manage the Hike NS brand and build awareness of its programs and services.<br />
<br />
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator will carry out the following tasks:<br />
• Create, implement and evaluate a communications plan<br />
• Oversee the implementation of organization brand guidelines<br />
• Write content for communications tools including social media, newsletters, websites, flyers, brochures, reports, PSAs, news releases, etc.<br />
• Create visuals to support communications efforts<br />
• Manage social media accounts<br />
• Monitor analytics and report on the effectiveness of communications tools<br />
• Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices<br />
• Respond to media inquiries and maintain relationships with members of the media<br />
• Collaborate with staff to plan press or promotional events<br />
• Implement and evaluate the membership development plan<br />
• Manage regular membership communications<br />
• Conduct regular reporting and year-end reporting<br />
• Perform other related duties as assigned<br />
• Support the overall work of Hike NS<br />
<br />
Skill / Qualification Requirements<br />
• Education and/or training in communications, marketing, public relations or similar<br />
• Experience in a communications or marketing role<br />
• Excellent time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines<br />
• Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail<br />
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and public speaking abilities<br />
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team<br />
• Media relations experience<br />
• Familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, graphic design and presentation software<br />
• Capable of creating visually compelling communications tools<br />
• Experience in managing an organization or business social media accounts<br />
• Experience with email marketing software and website content management software<br />
• Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices<br />
• Experience with membership management and engagement an asset<br />
• Experience working/volunteering in the not-for-profit sector an asset<br />
<br />
Because the first year of this position is being supported through a youth-focused wage subsidy, the successful candidate must:<br />
• Be 30 years of age or under<br />
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or hold refugee status in Canada<br />
• Have a post-secondary accomplishment (some exceptions apply)<br />
<br />
The successful applicant must also:<br />
• Be a current resident of Nova Scotia<br />
• Be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends<br />
• Be able to work remotely from own home office with some in-person meetings and events required<br />
• Have a valid driver's license<br />
<br />
Working Conditions<br />
<br />
The Coordinator will be required to work remotely from their own home office (require their own basic remote office equipment and technology) and must attend regular in-person meetings with co-workers as well as meet with partners on occasion.<br />
<br />
Terms of Employment<br />
<br />
Full-time (35 hours/week) at $25/hr (starting in January 2024)<br />
