Position: GoodWork Coordinator / Connector / Movement Builder
About GoodWork

For over two decades, GoodWork has served as a much-loved community for everyone who wants a green, sustainable world. What started as a humble email list has grown into a network for meaningful work and involvement across Canada. Driven by an underlying passion for environment and sustainability -- 45,000 green jobs and counting. GoodWork has sown many of the seeds that have grown into today's environmental movement. But there is so much more to be done. GoodWork.ca/about

About the position:

This is a unique opportunity to make a difference for not only the environment, but in many people's lives. You will find yourself at the centre of Canada's environmental movement, in a role too often ignored, but all the more crucial. From the outside, GoodWork seems to happen automatically, day after day. But bringing it all together takes the dedicated work of our team. Ultimately, helping to match motivated individuals with opportunities where they can apply themselves and make a difference. We're looking for the right person to play a key role in that.

Duties:

Your main responsibility will be to publish and distribute new postings as they come in. This includes checking, formatting, clarifying, targeting and other steps.
Making many decisions and judgment calls every day, using your training, knowledge, research, and support from other staff
Responsive, top notch client service
Creative problem solving and innovation
Social media networking and promotion, as time allows
Other roles as your interests and time allow. Possibilities include other communication roles, partnerships, systems development, organizational development, administration.

Handling many postings each day, there is an aspect to this role that for some, would feel repetitive. But for the right person it is a multi-layered position, with lots of variety, judgment, interacting with clients, positive feedback and tangible results. The current person in this role has been doing it for 23 years, and grew enormously with the position. (They will be mentoring and working with the chosen candidate.)

[img4]This is a position that can evolve with your interests and abilities. However, at least for the first year or two, we really need someone who can dedicate themselves to publishing the new postings daily.

Skills & Abilities
* Note: if you don't match our profile of the ideal candidate, but feel passionate about this position, we still want to hear from you. This is a position that can grow with the candidate.

(1) Environment / Sustainability

* First and foremost, a passion for the environment/ sustainability/ climate action; the people and species impacted by our inaction.

(2) Communications, customer service, judgment

* Clear, concise and effective communications, spoken and written (English required; French is an asset)
* Excellent customer/client service skills — the ability to communicate clearly with clients by email and telephone to best understand their situations, meet their needs and expectations
* Excellent sense of judgment, weighing priorities, the needs and expectations of different audiences.
* The ability to thoughtfully make decisions while weighing impacts, pros and cons, considering at the same time the client, the greater community, as well as GoodWork's sustainability and effectiveness.
* Not afraid to make a phone call, when needed. A 3-minute phone call can often achieve what a dozen email back-and-forths cannot.
* Good speed and accuracy using a computer, editing documents, learning new systems
* Innovative / creative / entrepreneurial mindset
* Able to skim and edit rapidly, distilling key issues

If you are able to work in-person at our Ottawa office, this position would be suitable either for someone with an intermediate level of experience; or possibly a new/recent graduate with the passion to learn from the ground level up. On the other hand, if working remotely, at least a somewhat greater level of experience would be required to succeed in this position.
Or, with an outstanding candidate, hybrid or remote options could be discussed, anywhere in Canada. (An in-person presence would be most helpful during the initial learning curve, which is likely to be at least a few months.)
* This is primarily a desk position, working with a computer. An adjustable sit/stand desk can be provided if required.
* Work with a small but dedicated team who care deeply about environment and sustainability, and have plenty of experience to share
* A bright, positive workplace, offering personal and professional development opportunities if desired

Please mention any preferences or constraints in your application.
