Children's General Audition Call
(Equity and Non-Equity Artists are invited to apply.)
JBJ Productions is looking for four children (two principals, two subs) to
play the featured and lead roles of Colin and Mary in its full benefit run
of the musical The Secret Garden in support of Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation to open at the Jane Mallet Theatre, St. Lawrence Centre and run
for 10 shows over two weeks in November, 2002.
Interested children (no prior performance experience necessary) are asked
to register in person at the Randolph Academy of Performing Arts, 736
Bathurst Street, Toronto, Ontario on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 10:00
am. General Auditions will begin at 10:30 am that morning. (Equity
members are invited to send resume and picture to 34 Closs Square, Aurora,
ON L4G 5H4.)
Candidates should be prepared to do a group audition which includes group
sing, group (led) improvisation, and group movement exercises. Candidates
will be seen on a "first come, first serve" basis and must be accompanied
by a parent or guardian. Candidates are asked to come with a spare recent
picture of themselves.
All senior artistic, corporate and design staff are donating their time to
this project. Many thanks to the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts

* In the event that there are more children than available slots on
Saturday April 20th, an alternate day will be made available to all
children who register.
* Candidates must be available to rehearse from the beginning of September,
2002 through November, 2002 two or three nights a week (Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Thursdays) and Sunday afternoons - although they would
rarely be called for all of these nights in one week. The final week of
rehearsal should be expected to be more intense.
* Substitutes will be given the opportunity to play their assigned roles
twice during the run.
* Children over the height of 4 feet 10 inches may be considered too tall
for the roles of Colin and Mary.
* All minors will require parental or guardian's approval to participate.
*JBJ Productions is anticipating retaining Equity members for this
engagement under the Guest Artist policy.

Character Descriptions
Mary Lennox: Character Age: 10 Vocal
Range: Treble/Soprano Accent: High British Ill-tempered and lost after
the death of all those she loved, Mary travels to England to live with her
Uncle Archibald in the gloomy Misselthwaite Manor. She soon finds her late
aunt Lily's lost garden and in nurturing the garden back to life, she
brings hope and love back to herself and to the Craven household.
Colin Craven: Character Age: 10 Vocal Range: Boy Treble
(unchanged) Accent: High British Colin has been treated as an invalid
all his life and over-indulged. Consequently he has become an irritating
spoiled boy. After meeting Mary, however, Colin finds someone who
interests him much more than himself and he is inspired to get out of his
room and into the fresh air and sunshine.
