Playing Shakespeare
This three-day workshop is designed to strengthen an actors ability to play
classical repertoire, as well as providing skills that would be useful in
any situation. Participants will be paired up and given the scenes that
will form the basis of the work for the session.
Starting with movement and ending with scene work, this workshop will give
you an opportunity to explore Shakespeare in greater depth. The morning of
day one will begin with a movement class to reconnect and centre the actor
physically in the space and in relation to what surrounds them. This will
be followed by work on vocal production and reminders of what releases a
powerful and free voice. The afternoon will be spent at the table beginning
to work on the scenes. The remainder of the workshop will be spent finding
strategies for releasing the depth and emotional intensity of the
repertoire. Part of the time will be spent at the table unlocking the
language. Then we will move into exploring the physical shape of the scenes
and the beginnings of emotional connection with the texts, working
towards finishing the journey in each scene. Each group will spend equal
time working through their scenes and observing other groups' work. Scene
texts will be forwarded to each participant in advance of the workshop.
