INSTRUCTOR: Robert Seale, Fight Master
A graduate of the National Theatre School in Montreal, Mr. Seale has been a
professional since 1974, appearing in over 150 leading roles in the major
theatres across Canada, and in the U.S. Besides private teaching, Mr. Seale
does professional consultation, choreography and stunt work for stage and
film through his company, Fights Unlimited, for such groups as the National
Ballet, Shaw Festival, National Arts Centre, Canadian Opera Company and the
Ontario Science Centre. Since 1980, Mr. Seale has taught at the graduate
and undergraduate levels on the faculties of numerous post-secondary
institutions nationally, and in 1992 was awarded a research grant to
complete formulation of a national system of Fight Certification for
Canada - resulting the next year in the founding of Fight Directors,
Canada, recognized by the national fight organizations of other countries
as this nation’s regulatory body. He remained the elected President until
last year, when he withdrew to become Executive Director for the IOSP in
Washington, D.C. - the international “Round Table” of all national
organizations. In addition to over 300 professional fight direction credits
on stage and screen, as Sword Master on the film The Swordsman, starring
Lorenzo Lamas and Michael Champion (whom he stunt-doubled), he hired,
trained, choreographed and armed (in 5 different historical periods) 36
professional fighters. Mr. Seale holds an MFA summa cum laude in
Performance, and is one of only three internationally ranked Fight Masters
in Canada. He and his family are now “home from away’ in Nova Scotia.
