Audition Notice
Platypus Theatre will be holding auditions for its 2002-2003
International tour of four children's plays for actors and symphony
orchestra. We are looking for one actress to play the lead in four
different productions: "Rhythm in Your Rubbish", "How the Gimquat Found
Her Song", "Bach to the Future" and "Emily Saves the Orchestra".
Applicants must be fluently bilingual, have good rhythmic sense, and a
strong interest in theatre for young audiences. A knowledge of
classical music, clown work and puppetry is an asset.
The characters to be played in each production are:
Rhythm in Your Rubbish: The Woman - Silent movie-type of tramp.
Gregarious. Must be able to learn and play percussion
instruments.
How the Gimquat Found Her Song: Gimquat - Forlorn, awkward bird.
Portrayed by a large puppet manipulated by the actor.
Bach to the Future: Corky - 11 years old, intelligent, feisty,
precocious. Must be able to sing reasonably well.
Emily Saves the Orchestra: Emily - 10 years-old. Spunky.
We are looking for an experienced actor. Older actors who can play young
will be strongly considered. Rehearsals will begin in late September
with performances throughout Canada, the US and Asia from October to the
end of May. Auditions will be held in Ottawa the second week of June.
Equity members are encouraged to audition.
