1. Vancouver - Sanford Meisner Repetition Workshop
with RUSSELL BENNETT
----------------------------------------------------

'Boot-camp for your instincts'
Six weeks
Two classes per week

Re-train your instincts - Experience moment-to-moment contact with other
actors - Connect to your impulses and truthful human behaviour

What is repetition? Why repeat?

Repetition is an acting exercise developed by Sanford Meisner at the
Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. It is the
foundation and first element of Meisner's acting technique. Repetition
is a simple and direct way for an actor to connect to his or her
truthful behaviour. Listening, answering and revealing truthful,
moment-to-moment behaviour is the goal.

After his successful Vancouver fall session, Russell is offering another
beginner class in January, 2004, and an intermediate class for students
from his beginner class. Learning to act is a process of stretching
yourself to places you may fear. Russell's class provides a safe,
nurturing environment to take risks and to reveal your truthful
behaviour, deepening your ability to act. Repetition is the foundation
for scene work in theatre, television and film, and is required for the
other levels of the Meisner technique.

Russell Bennett is a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of
the Theatre. Other alumni include Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Jeff
Goldblum, Sydney Pollock, Leslie Neilsen, Dylan McDermott, Illeana
Douglas and Allison Janney. At the Playhouse, Russell studied Meisner's
acting technique with Richard Pinter, Ron Stetson, Gary Kingston and
C.C. Courtney. Originally from Toronto, Russell has been repeating since
1996 when he began classes with Jacqueline McClintock. Russell has
worked in film, television and theatre for six years as an actor,
director and producer.

Russell's simple and direct approach makes the actor feel understood and
safe, allowing them to explore and take risks.Russell has the innate
ability to know what the actor is feeling. He is smart, sensitive and
has a finely-tuned instrument himself. But most importantly, he doesn't
let you get away with anything! Jason Fraser, Actor, Graduate of the
Neighborhood Playhouse

Before the first class, it is recommended that actors read the book
Sanford Meisner on Acting by Sanford Meisner and Dennis Longwell (New
York: Random House, 1987).

A weekend masterclass with Molly Lyons
---------------------------------------

Saturday 24 - Sunday 25 Jan 2004
10am - 6pm
At the Vancouver Playhouse, 160 West 1st Ave, Vancouver

"Why shouldn't one be able to workout on the body of Shakespeare, much
as one goes to the gym to workout on one's physical body? Surely both
offer as much succour to the soul!"

If you want to breathe new life into your classical work...
If you want to blow the dust of your audition pieces...
If you want a clearer understanding of how to successfully approach a
text...
If you want to rediscover Shakespeare as a contemporary playwright...
If you simply want to brush up and hone your acting skills...
THEN THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU!

Molly Lyons is a Seattle-based director who runs Green Wood Studio
(www.greenwoodstudio.org). Her teaching work has taken her across North
America and Europe and she also runs the popular week-long Seattle-Orcas
acting retreat each year. She will be in Vancouver this Spring to direct
a production of The Glass Menagerie and we are excited and thrilled that
she has agreed to give this masterclass while she is in town!
