In great demand as a voice teacher/vocal coach, Tom Schilling has busy
studios in New York City as well as Hamilton and Toronto, Canada. Tom
has guided singers for more than 20 years, and has recently joined the
faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA. Through
his
work as accompanist for Winifred Cecil and his piano studies with German
Diez in NYC, he developed a unique awareness of sound. This awareness
is the essence of his teaching and once mastered, the body learns the
correct physiological coordination for singing, playing or speaking.
Singers from his studios have performed with the Metropolitan Opera, New
York City Opera, Opera Ontario, Kiev Opera, Caracas Opera, Seattle
Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, the New York Philharmonic, Berlin
Philharmonic and the National Symphonies of Puerto Rico and El Salvador.
His work with the voice is also highly esteemed in show business
circles, and singers from his studios have performed as leads on
Broadway in "Phantom of the Opera", "Peter Pan", and "Cyrano".
