BABY CLOWN WORKSHOP
With Michael Kennard
January 13 - March 26, 2003
Mon, Tue and Thur nights 7:00 -10:00 p.m
Fee: $800.00 + 7%GST = $ 856.00
This workshop is based on the Pochinko technique. Students begin
with a focus on listening. Games and exercises are used to awaken
and encourage a sense of pleasure, an awareness of one's immediate
environment, and an honest response to internal impulses and external
events.
Individually creativity is explored with colour work and bodywork,
and eventually the students begin the making and wearing of six
masks. These masks mark out the playground for the clown, guiding
the participants through their innocence and experience, extremities,
culminating in the "birth" of their individual clown. (Over 100
hours) *Please note there will be some work outside of class time.

INTRO TO CLOWN THREE DAY WEEKEND WORKSHOP
This is an introductory clown workshop based on the Pochinko
technique. Students begin with a focus on listening. Games and
exercises are used to awaken and encourage a sense of pleasure, an

Students are then introduced to the clown world, where they will wear
Noses and hats to help discover their clown. An individual and group
playground is created where the clown explores it's physicality,
innocence and experience, extremities and normalcies. Culminating with
students creating and presenting a short individual clown piece.

* Saturday, February 22 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m.
* Sunday, February 23 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
* Fee for three day workshop is $200.00 + GST.

ADVANCED SOLO CLOWN CLASS
DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for students who have completed the Pochinko
Baby Clown or Clown through Mask course and wish to further explore
their clowns. The course focuses on your clown and it's masks,
writing for your clown
>and
physically exploring your clown. The course culminates with each
student presenting a solo clown turn at The SPACE for three nights.

Michael Kennard's Bio
Michael Kennard is best known as performer and co-creator, with John
>Turner
of the Canadian clown duo, Mump & Smoot. Their shows have enjoyed
great success in the Fringe Festivals as well as at the Yale
Repertory Theatre, the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, the La Jolla Playhouse, the Dallas Theatre Centre,
Off-Broadways in N.Y. and most recently at The Canadian Stage Berkley
St. in Toronto. Michael has been teaching in Toronto at The SPACE-
Studio for Physical and Clown
>Exploration
for the past six years. Prior to that Michael taught clown at Equity
Showcase in Toronto for seven years. Michael and John have also
taught at the University of Tel Aviv, Bishops University, the Yale
School of Drama
>in
the graduate program where they are associates artists, and at
California State University. Michael is a graduate from the
University Of Guelph
>Drama
program and has studied extensively in clown, improvisation,
movement, physical comedy, and Bouffon with Richard Pochinko, Ian
Wallace, Phillipe Gaulier, Fiona Griffiths, John Towsen and The
Second City. Michael's directing credits include; The Christmas
Carol, The Hobbit and The Wizard of Oz at The Globe Theatre in
Regina, Saskatchewan, Penitentiary of Love, Mamakin, The World of
Tocar, in Toronto and most recently Second City's Family Circus
Maximus and Insanity Fair in Toronto.
