Theatre Alberta is please to ring in the new year with our third annual
Dramaworks Calgary program, happening on January 31st and February 1st
in Calgary at the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts. We have some
terrific workshops lined up and we would love to see you there!

The Art of Storytelling with Barry Thorson - January 31, 2003
Turn your passion for storytelling into a practical tool for teaching or
developing new work, and discover the simplicity and power of using
story as a creation and learning technique.
Barry Thorson is an actor, writer, director, and teacher living and
working in Alberta. Barry is a graduate of the University of Alberta's
BFA in Acting.
Creative Choreography with Anita Miotti -January 31, 2003
Finally! A workshop for those of us who have had little or no dance
training. Discover your own unique way of creating movement for the
stage.
Anita Miotti holds a BFA in Drama and Dance from the University of
Calgary. Her choreography has been nominated for two Betty Mitchell
awards in Calgary.
Scene Study - From the Page to the Stage with Vanessa Porteous -
February 1, 2003
Strengthen your own craft and practice by going in-depth from the page
to the stage using scenes from contemporary Canadian plays.
Vanessa Porteous is a director and dramaturg. She has directed,
dramaturged, acted, and taught drama in Ottawa, Toronto, Regina,
Saskatoon, Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary in both official languages.
Vanessa holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta.
Camera Auditions: Panic Free with Rhonda Fisekci - February 1, 2003
This workshop will provide a practical approach to making it to and
through a film or television audition.
Rhonda Fisekci is an established Canadian casting director and has
provided principal casting for the television series Tom Stone,
Caitlin's Way, Monte Walsh, and North of 60.
Voice Work for the Actor with David Ley - February 1, 2003
This workshop will focus on all aspects of voice production, from
resonance through to articulation. Participants will leave with vocal
warm-ups for both classical and contemporary text. Please come prepared
with two contrasting monologues, one classical and one contemporary.
David Ley is a graduate of Studio 58 and holds an MFA in performance
with a specialization in voice and speech from York University. He has
been a voice coach at the Stratford Festival for the past ten years.

The Business of Being an Artist Series 2: Setting Up a Business begins
this month, it is the first of three workshops in this series.
Creating a Business Plan
Saturday, January 18 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Cost: $40.00 + GST
Instructor: Diane Burroughes
Business planning is an effective tool for goal setting, personal
planning, identifying destination, charting a course and assessment.
Take a look at the categories and context; make sense of them, and
determine how they can assist you in planning for your success. Diane
has been working for 20 years as a coach, facilitator and designer of
new programs, and as faculty at various colleges. Over the last four
years she has worked with over 400 artists in Alberta, British
Columbia and Ontario, assisting them in increasing their success.
Diane brings a wealth of knowledge and a highly developed intuitive
capacity to her life's work.

Artist Afternoon at the Auburn:
Friday, January 17th from 4 - 6 PM starts the new year of AAA. Artists
working in the classroom get together at the Auburn to tell stories,
