Janacek's Jenufa 
January 25 to February 9, 2003
How far would you go for love? A harrowing tale of small village life,
Jenufa tells a story about how the miracle of redemption can overcome
the pain of misguided moral choices. This critically acclaimed COC
signature production is making its return to the Hummingbird Centre.
During its original run, NOW Magazine said: "There's no better way to be
introduced to the theatrical power of opera than with the Canadian Opera
Company's production of Leos Janacek's Jenufa, directed with depth and
insight by Nicholas Muni." The Toronto Sun said: "Jenufa offers its
major challenge to its audience, demanding that they accept something
more - darker - than merely pretty melodies and lavish sets in their

Starring Helen Field and Eva Urbanova, directed by Nicholas Muni and
