CROSSCURRENTS: A New Play Festival of Cultural Ideas

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Factory Theatre is soliciting new stageplays by writers of colour for
our third annual CrossCurrents - a new play festival devoted to
showcasing and developing works whose themes involve the intersection of
different cultures.

In its first two years, CrossCurrents has been a tremendous success. Two
of the mainstage productions in our 2003-04 season, Hiro Kanagawa's
Tiger of Malaya and Carmen Aguirre's The Refugee Hotel, were first
showcased in CrossCurrents. Writers who submitted to CrossCurrents have
also received commissions, workshops, and invitations to join the
Factory Theatre Playwrights' Lab.

This year's CrossCurrents Festival will take place in Factory's Studio
Theatre from March 8 - 20, 2004. Each selected play will receive
dramaturgical support, a workshop, and a public reading. Out of town
playwrights will receive travel expenses and per diem. To be eligible,
playwrights must be available to attend the festival.

CrossCurrents is open to writers from across the country. We are
particularly looking for writers from diverse communities whose work
examines and questions old ideas of culture in light of the dynamic
changes around us today; and for stories in which cultures clash, cross,
or come together. Full-length plays in all stages of development are
preferred, although shorter plays will also be considered. Additionally
we encourage writers now working in other forms (prose, poetry, film,
etc.) who are interested in exploring the challenge of playwriting to
submit plays or works-in-progress.

Please send:
.	a completed script or script excerpt for work-in-progress
.	a letter outlining your play's developmental history
.	a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want your material
returned.
