2003 Betty Mitchell Awards Nomination Announcement

Calgary,  Nominations for the 2003 Betty Mitchell Awards will be
announced at the Auburn Saloon* on Monday, June 30, 2003 at 4:00pm by
Betty Mitchell Awards Co-Chairs, Mark Bellamy and Johanne Deleeuw.

Bellamy and Deleeuw will announce nominees in 15 categories celebrating
excellence in theatrical direction, performance, design, playwriting,
choreography/fight direction, musical direction, and production.

Now in their sixth year, The Betty Mitchell Awards are an important part
of Calgary's theatre community. These awards not only recognize the
continued level of excellence in our theatres but also raise the profile
of live performance in our city and encourage audience growth.

Members of the Calgary theatre community, friends, patrons, and the
media are invited to attend the Nomination Announcement. The afternoon
announcement will also commemorate the final theatre celebration at the
Auburn Saloon before it moves locations, after ten years, to the Tower
Centre.  The Auburn Saloon won the 2002 Betty Mitchell Award for
Outstanding
Contribution to Theatre in Calgary.

Various award nominees and members of the theatre community will be
available for comment and interview.  Cameras are encouraged and
welcome.

The 2003 Betty Mitchell Awards will be held on Monday, August 25, 2003
at Stage West, 727  -  42 Ave S.E.  Tickets are $36.00 (add $1.00
surcharge for credit card orders) and can be purchased at the Stage West
Box Office, 243-6642.  Tickets go on sale July 2, 2003.  Doors open for
dinner at 5:30 pm  and the ceremonies start at 7:30pm.
