This fall, renowned conductor Andrew Parrott joins forces with Opera
Atelier and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra for the Canadian premiere of
Gluck's greatest masterpiece, Iphigenie en Tauride.  A strikingly modern
and experimental work, this new production brings together theatre,
dance and music in a 2 hour tour de force.  This production features 7
principle singers, a corp de ballet of 17, a 19 voice choir and a 33
piece orchestra that will dazzle the senses!

Written for Marie Antoinette and heralded by ecstatic critics as a work
of genius, Iphig=E9nie en Tauride caused a sensation when it premiered
at the Paris Opera house in 1779.  Gluck's Masterpiece breaks with
almost every operatic convention of 18th century France. Telling the
ancient story of Iphigenie, daughter of Agamemnon, who is abandoned on
the island of Tauride for the duration of the Trojan War.  She is
miraculously reunited with her brother Orestes following the murder of
their father and mother (Clytemnestra), Iphigenie's courage and
self-sacrifice ensure their safe return to the kingdom of Mycenae.
