BIG SMOKE PRODUCTIONS INC. presents
A TASTE OF REPETITION
Sanford Meisner Acting Technique
with RUSSELL BENNETT
-----------------------------------

Six weeks - One class per week

Get addicted to the present - Experience moment-to-moment contact with
other actors -
Connect to your impulses and truthful human behaviour

What is repetition? Why repeat?

Repetition is an acting exercise developed by Sanford Meisner at the
Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. It is
the foundation and first element of Meisner's acting technique.
Repetition is a simple and direct way for an actor to connect to his or
her truthful behaviour. Listening, answering and revealing truthful,
moment-to-moment behaviour is the goal.

A TASTE OF REPETITION is Russell Bennett's introductory level class.
All students are considered "actors" in this class. You will experience
dynamic exchanges of truthful behaviour and energy between you and your
acting partner. Learning to act is a process of stretching yourself to
places you may fear. Russell's class provides a safe, nurturing
environment to take risks and reveal yourself so you can deepen your
ability to act in any medium. Repetition is the foundation for scene
work in theatre, television and film, and is required for other levels
of the technique taught in Russell's future classes.

Russell Bennett is a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of
the Theatre. Other alumni include Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Jeff
Goldblum, Sydney Pollock, Dylan McDermott, Illeana Douglas and Allison
Janney. At the Playhouse, Russell studied Meisner's acting technique
with Richard Pinter, Ron Stetson, Gary Kingston and C.C. Courtney.
Originally from Toronto, Russell has been repeating since 1996 when he
began classes with Jacqueline McClintock. Russell has worked in film,
television and theatre for six years as an actor, director and producer.

Before the first class, it is recommended that actors read the book
Sanford Meisner on Acting by Sanford Meisner and Dennis Longwell (New
York: Random House, 1987).

Workshop Instructor: Christopher von Baeyer
Artistic Director of Toronto Playback Theatre Project
-------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, November 22 10 - 6 pm &
Sunday, November 23 12 - 6 pm

The role of the actor in all societies is to authentically re-tell the
stories that are meaningful and important for the members of his or her
community. Whether playing in the amphitheatres of ancient Greece or the
film, theatre and television sets of our modern commercial world, actors
face the challenge of developing their voices, bodies, and emotions to
ring with the sound of truth, so that their audiences will continue to
entrust them with their stories.

In this unique 2-day workshop we will explore the principles and
practices of emotional authenticity in performance. Participants will
be introduced to a variety of professional performance training
techniques developed to enhance presence, spontaneity, vocal
flexibility, physical expressiveness and creative collaboration.
Particular emphasis will be placed on Playback Theatre, an
audience-interactive improvisational storytelling form that has served
as a vehicle for bringing stories from the community onto stages around
the world for over 20 years. For more information about Playback Theatre
