Written in 1970, ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST is Dario Fo's
best-known and most produced play. In the first four years of its
production it was seen by an estimated one million people. A sharp and
hilarious satire on police corruption, and based on a real case, Fo
tells the story of the anarchist railway worker who, in 1969, 'fell' to
his death from a police
headquarters window. It is a piece in which Dario Fo's skill at writing
farce and his gifts as a clown brilliantly serve his politics, playing
on the tensions between the death of the prisoner and the farcial
interventions of the authorities to explain it.
