A Red Letter Reading
Vita and Virginia
--------------------

A fundraiser for Red Letter Theatre

Intense and passionate, Vita and Virginia by Eileen Atkins reveals the
20-year love affair between Vita Sackville-West and Virginia
Woolf. Directed by Ellen-Ray Hennessy, this fundraiser in support of
Red Letter Theatre will play for one night only on Thursday, November
20, 2003 at 8:00pm at Harbourfront Centre in the Studio, 235 Queens Quay
West.

Vita and Virginia is a magnificent weaving of written correspondence
between two of the most celebrated and successful novelists of the
Modernist literary period. Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West first
met in 1922 when they were aged 40 and 30 respectively. Through the
course of the next 20 years, until Virginia's suicide in 1941, the
extraordinary relationship between them was charted in their letters to
one another, in which they speak of everyday life, friends, literature
and, above all themselves. The play, adapted by Eileen Atkins, takes it
lead from these letters; creating a compelling and dramatic retelling of
their love affair

The reading features Rosemary Dunsmore as Virginia Woolf (recent credits
include her Dora nominated performance in The Domino Heart; a Masque
Award for Interpretation Feminine for her performance in Wit - a first
for an English-speaking actress, and her work as director for Resurgence
Theatre's 2003 production of Measure for Measure), and Tedde Moore as
Vita Sackville-West (credits include leading roles at the Stratford
Festival, the National Arts Centre, Necessary Angel and more; as well as
a Dora Award for Outstanding Female Lead for her performance in The
Walls of Africa at Theatre Passe Muraille in 2002). Vita and Virginia
is directed by Ellen-Ray Hennessy (most recently seen as Libby Holman in
Play Murder at Buddies in Bad Times. Other credits include a Dora
nominated performance in The Emotionalists and a Jesse Richardson Award
nomination for her work in the Vancouver Playhouse/CanStage production
of The Edible Woman).

Red Letter Theatre was founded in 1998 by Roxanne Deans. It has had
considerable success in its short life. The company has produced five
shows (including three Canadian premieres) on the fringe circuit and has
received critical praise for its performers, directors and staging. Red
Letter Theatre is currently fostering two new Canadian plays and
preparing for two ambitious productions in 2004.

Letter Theatre graciously thanks the support of Harbourfront Centre and
the Canadian Actors' Equity Association for their support of this
event.
