VOICE(TENOR)INSTRUCTOR - UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

Applications are invited for a three-year term position in Voice (tenor)
at the Instructor 1 level. Preference will be given to candidates who
hold a master's degree or equivalent professional experience and be able
to indicate evidence of success and commitment as a teacher at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. Indications of an already established
professional career or reputation as an emerging artist with a
well-rounded background and diverse repertoire are expected.  Candidates
with demonstrated success in attracting high quality students will
receive special consideration. We are seeking a person to join an
already strong voice faculty who are extremely active in the
professional community locally, nationally and internationally.   
 
Teaching responsibilities will include teaching major practical study
lessons in voice and offering a studio class on a weekly basis. Other
responsibilities will be assigned as appropriate to the candidate's
interests and training, e.g. coaching opera workshop, vocal pedagogy,
collaborative piano, keyboard skills, early music performance, 20th
century music history, or technology. In addition to teaching, the
candidate will be expected to maintain and develop a national and
international performance career, and through these activities be a
representative of the School of Music as a recruiter. All School of
Music faculty are expected to serve on juries, university committees and
provide leadership in the community.  
 
Serving approximately 200 students, the School of Music has 23 full-time
and 36 part-time faculty including those who play major roles in local
professional organizations such as the Manitoba Opera, Canzona, Winnipeg
Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and Royal Winnipeg
Ballet. The School of Music offers a full range of undergraduate
programs and selected graduate programs.  It has an established record
of achievement in teaching and performance with graduates performing and
teaching at the highest levels throughout the world.
 
The voice department is currently comprised of nine faculty members
including department chair and baritone, Mel Braun, mezzo-sopranos,
Karen Jensen and Lois Watson-Lyons, lyric sopranos, Charlene Pauls,
Diane Berger and Monica Huisman, coloratura soprano Tracy Dahl, musical
theatre specialist and soprano Donna Fletcher, and vocal coach, Laura
Loewen.
 
Application Deadline: Applications should be received by October 31,
2003 with a start date of July 1, 2004.. Letters of application should
address the candidate's general qualifications and be accompanied by a
detailed curriculum vita, three recent letters of reference sent
directly by a placement service or the referees, and an audio recording
which includes recent solo and chamber performances.
