1. BEGINNER MEISNER TECHNIQUE - VANCOUVER
----------------------------------------------------------------
'Beginner Meisner Technique'
with Gillian Stevens-Guille

Six weeks
Two classes per week

Re-train your instincts - Experience moment-to-moment contact with other
actors - Connect to your impulses and truthful human behaviour.

What is repetition? Why repeat?
Repetition is an acting exercise developed by Sanford Meisner at the
Neighbourhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. It is
the foundation and first element of Meisner's acting technique.
Repetition is a simple and direct way for an actor to connect to his or
her truthful behaviour. Listening, answering and revealing truthful,
moment-to-moment behaviour is the goal.

Learning to act is a process of stretching yourself to places you may
fear. Gillian's class provides a safe, nurturing environment to take
risks and to reveal your truthful behaviour, deepening your ability to
act. Repetition is the foundation for scene work in theatre, television
and film, and is required for the other levels of the Meisner technique.

Gillian Stevens-Guille is a graduate of the Neighbourhood Playhouse
School of the Theatre. Other alumni include Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton,
Jeff Goldblum, Sydney Pollock, Leslie Neilsen, Dylan McDermott, Illeana
Douglas and Allison Janney. At the Playhouse, Gillian studied Meisner's
acting technique with Richard Pinter, Ron Stetson, Gary Kingston and
C.C. Courtney. Gillian has been repeating since 1996 when she began
classes with Jacqueline McClintock in Toronto.

Before the first class, it is recommended that actors read the book
Sanford Meisner on Acting by Sanford Meisner and Dennis Longwell.(New
York: Random House, 1987).

2. PLAYING WITH SHAKESPEARE - TORONTO
--------------------------------------------------------
Looking for a fresh approach?

Movement, improvisation, voice and structural analysis techniques will
be introduced and developed in this workshop aimed at opening new
approaches to performing Shakespeare.

An actor has three principal tools to communicate meaning - action,
speech and emotion. This workshop will examine ways to first free and
then control these energies. By learning to separate out these three
channels it is possible to add richness, complexity and make room for
the unexpected in a performance.

Focus will be on scenes and monologues from Shakespeare. Participants
are asked to bring a Shakespeare monologue to the first meeting. A
perfect opportunity to deepen your work on an audition piece, or explore
new material, while learning new skills.

AIDAN TIERNEY brings over fifteen years of experience as an actor and
director to his teaching. He has led workshops and directed productions
in London, Toronto and the Edinburgh Fringe and has performed at the
Royal National Theatre, Canadian Stage, National Arts Centre, Citadel
Theatre and Cleveland Playhouse. Aidan's first acting job was playing
the role of Van in Atom Egoyan's Family Viewing. He is a graduate of the
Professional Acting Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama,
and has a B.A. from the University of Toronto. Aidan is also a
qualified yoga instructor.

Aidan's work is influenced by his experiences with the Russian directors
Vassili Skorik and Sergei Issaev, as well as directors Kenneth Rea,
Chattie Salaman and Atom Egoyan. He studied voice and speech with Patsy
Rodenburg for over fours years.
