CALL FOR SOLIDARITY FROM ACTRA MARITIMES
------------------------------------------
ACTRA Maritimes has called on Equity members to support their efforts to
get Paul Donovan, formerly one of the principals of Salter Street Films,
to the bargaining table. This producer is currently casting a television
show in Halifax entitled "The Conclave" which is primarily being cast
with European performers plus a few small roles going to non-union
Canadians.
CAEA calls on our members to assist ACTRA Maritimes in this fight.
Professional work opportunities in the film industry have decreased
dramatically in the
past year and in a region such as Atlantic Canada, every production must
provide the opportunity for professional actors to work.
CAEA has pledged its assistance to ACTRA Maritimes and urges you to
spread the word that without an ACTRA contract in place for this
production, performers are in jeopardy.
CAEA members who accept work for a non-union film production under any
circumstance will be deemed to be behaving in a manner prejudicial to
the welfare and interests of CAEA and may be disciplined under the
association's Constitution and By-Laws.
By stemming this producer's access to non-union talent, ACTRA hopes to
compel this engager back to the bargaining table. Only then can
professional union talent get the roles that should rightfully be
theirs.
