CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - TORONTO
----------------------------------------------
CanStage call for submissions for Urinetown - A musical comedy by Mark
Hollmann and Greg Kotis. Directed by John Rando Rehearsals begin April
19, 2004; Opens - May 27 at the Bluma Appel Theatre; closes - October 9,
2004. Auditions will take place in March. Please send submissions for
the roles of:
OFFICER BARREL: 30s - 40s. Lockstock's partner. Tough, capable of
true violence, street smart but not particularly bright. Devoted to
Lockstock. Has secret reservations about the punishment he dishes out
to the citizens of Urinetown. Could be heavy in stature. Bari-Tenor.
ROBBIE THE STOCKFISH: 20's. Thuggish, a little slow, Broadway
Baritone.
SENATOR FIPP: 40s. A corrupt politician who supports Cladwell's
enterprise, as long as his payoff is sufficiently large. A tad smarmy.
Bass/Baritone.
BILLY BOY BILL: 20s. Cool and collected, great first tenor. Usually
an actor of colour. Tall and lean, top note in head A Flat, belt to C.
HOPE CLADWELL: Mid 20's - early 30s. Very pretty. The kind-hearted,
naive and extremely innocent daughter of Cladwell. Hope is idealistic
and extremely literal. Must be a terrific comedienne with a great
Broadway Soprano/Belt.
PENELOPE PENNYWISE: Late 30s - early 40s. Tough talking, wise cracking
manager of the public urinal. Jaded, but has a heart of gold and a
secret. High belt to a G and legit Soprano to a C.
SOUPY SUE/CLADWELL'S SECRETARY: 20's-30's. Doubles as one of the
neurotic poor and Mr. Cladwell's voluptuous secretary. Must have
fantastic legit soprano, Broadway belt to B, head to G.
Send submissions ASAP and no later than February 24, 2004 to:
