EQUIFLASH - ITA CONTRACT REQUIRED FOR SHAKESPEARE BY THE SEA
-------------------------------------------------------------
The Executive Committee of Council has determined that the Halifax
outdoor summer theatre, Shakespeare by the Sea, must adhere to the
Independent Theatre Agreement (ITA) before any member of Equity may work
for this producer.
The Independent Theatre Agreement is the scale agreement for
professional theatres which are not members of PACT and includes minimum
requirements for:
* Health and Safety standards
* Stage Management
* Outdoor venues
* Repertory theatre
* Dispute Resolution
Until such time as the theatre signs on to the ITA and engages Equity
members under an ITA engagement contract, members of Equity are asked to
refrain from working for Shakespeare by the Sea. Members are advised
that CAEA will not grant permission to work for Shakespeare by the Sea
without reference to an Equity contract. Shakespeare by the Sea last
engaged members of Equity under the terms of the Independent Theatre
Agreement for their 2000 season.
All members of CAEA are reminded that they may not rehearse or perform,
stage manage, direct, or choreograph for any producer (Equity or
non-Equity, with or without pay) without an Equity contract or the
written permission of the Association. Any member who does so may be
subject to disciplinary proceedings under the Constitution and By-Laws
of CAEA.
If you have any questions or concerns about the rights and
responsibilities of membership in the Association, or any producer with
whom a member may wish to be engaged, please contact our offices.
