2. MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE - TORONTO
---------------------------------------------------------
Taught by John Riven
The training begins with a period of extensive improvisational
exercises, including the "repetition exercise," in which the actor's
attention is focused upon his or her partner's simple, real behaviour.
After this strong improvisational beginning, the students will
eventually apply learned principles to a text. The exercises are
designed to get rid of the "actor" in you and let you start the process
of shedding anything extraneous and false as you fully inhabit the
reality of this very moment. The work is challenging, honest and most
rewarding. Students of the Sanford Meisner's method have included the
following: Robert Duvall, Joanne Woodward, Jon Voight, Gregory Peck,
Diane Keaton, Peter Falk, Steve McQueen, Mary Steenburgen, Jeff
Goldblum, Sydney Pollack, and David Mamet."
A new 6 week session is commencing Thursdays from June 3rd to July 8th.
Class time is 7:00pm - 10:00 pm at Central Studios, 680 Yonge St 2nd
floor. The cost of the series will be $190 for non-union or $150 for
Equity/ACTRA. A $50 deposit is required before the class to reserve
space.
