AUDITION - DEVELOPMENTAL WORKSHOP - TORONTO

The Write Biz is casting a one-week developmental workshop of a new play
Surviving Mom by Barbara Bondar.  Mark Cassidy will direct the workshop,
January  16- 23, 2005.  The workshop will culminate in a staged reading
at Artword Theatre, Sun. Jan. 23.

DESCRIPTION

In contemporary hospital/nursing settings, the story follows the impact
of a mother's lengthy decline on her children who have their own issues
with aging ... and each other.

CHARACTERS SOUGHT

Danielle:  40-something.  Widowed mother of one; stalled composer with a
fine sense of rhythm; beaten down but holding on, a compassionate tiger
with a tough, dark center whose edges are showing.

Bart:  30-something.  Charming medical personality whose public self
represses his marshmallow core that opted out early from hands-on
practice.

Muriel:  80-something (also plays 30 - 40 something).  Beloved matriarch
who has lost much logic and speech ability but can still demonstrate
love and affection.  Memories of her younger self demonstrate the fun
and vitality that will be missed by those she loves.

Adrian:  15 years.  The only child, going on 40, out to save the world,
but especially his gran and mom; romantic, idealistic, loyal,
imaginative; about to see the grayscale in his black and white world.

Randall:  80-something.  Former R.N. pilot; bully; gossip; lonely; never
wanted a family connection when he had one.

Auditions will be held Dec. 21, 2004.  Submission deadline is Thurs.
Dec. 16.
